About the Role

Queensland Rail's Safety, Risk and Assurance team is seeking an experienced assurance and risk professional to help strengthen safety, risk and governance outcomes across our operations.

Reporting to the Manager SEQ Assurance, the Senior Assurance and Risk Adviser leads the delivery of risk-based assurance activities that provide confidence in Queensland Rail’s management of Workplace Health and Safety, Electrical Safety, Rail Safety and Environmental risks. The role supports compliance with legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements, assesses the effectiveness of controls, identifies improvement opportunities and delivers insights that enable informed decision-making and continuous improvement across the business.

Working with a diverse range of stakeholders, you will influence outcomes, build strong relationships and provide trusted advice on assurance, compliance and risk management matters. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assurance activities in accordance with approved frameworks and methodologies to assess the effectiveness of controls managing organisational risks, support the achievement of business objectives and performance targets, and drive continuous improvements in safety, environmental and organisational performance.
  • Collect, analyse and report on assurance findings, identifying trends, risks and control gaps. Escalate significant issues as required and provide recommendations to management to support continuous improvement.
  • Deliver assurance-related training, coaching, mentoring and expert advice to business units, supporting the effective delivery of assurance activities and promoting compliance with relevant legislation, standards and organisational requirements.
  • Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and continuously improve assurance frameworks and management systems, supporting compliance obligations and strengthening risk management practices across the organisation.
  • Support the development, implementation and promotion of management systems that demonstrate effective risk management and control assurance across the organisation.
  • Facilitate and participate in risk reviews, audits and other assurance-related activities, providing independent insights and recommendations to strengthen governance, risk management and compliance practices.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating assurance activities within a large, complex and multi-disciplinary organisation, Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to identify trends, provide insights and develop practical recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality reports and present findings to stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of assurance, governance, risk management and compliance principles, including an understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements such as Work Health and Safety, Rail Safety and Environmental legislation, together with applicable ISO and AS/NZS standards.and applying them in a practical business environment.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively, negotiate outcomes and build strong partnerships across all levels of the organisation.


Desirable

  • Recognised Internal Auditor certification or equivalent assurance/audit accreditation.
  • Experience within transport, infrastructure, safety-critical industries or other highly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to support organisational risk management.
