Senior Associate │ Personal Injury (Plaintiff), Mixed Practice 5+ Years min PQE │ Melbourne CBD, VIC About Our Client Our client is a well established national plaintiff compensation firm with a Melbourne CBD office. It acts only for injured people, on a no win, no fee basis. Its work covers road accident (TAC), workplace injury (WorkSafe), public liability, medical negligence, TPD and other insurance claims. The firm serves a diverse client base, with a strong focus on being accessible and approachable for its clients. The Opportunity Our client is looking for a Senior Associate to run a mixed personal injury practice from its Melbourne office and play an active part in growing it. This role is for a lawyer who wants more than a file load. As well as running your own practice, you'll be responsible for team billings and budgets, and for building relationships and referral sources that bring work into the firm. You'll be rewarded directly for the results you achieve. You'll have strong support behind you, including a dedicated offshore paralegal team. That frees you to focus on strategy, client relationships and getting matters resolved. Your work will include: Managing a mixed portfolio of TAC, WorkSafe, public liability and other plaintiff claims from first instructions through to resolution Advising clients on statutory entitlements, impairment benefits and common law claims Preparing serious injury applications and running common law proceedings Obtaining and analysing medical, employment and liability evidence, and briefing medico-legal experts and counsel Conducting settlement negotiations and appearing at conferences and mediations Directing the work of your paralegal support and guiding junior lawyers on your matters Monitoring team billings against budget and keeping matters moving towards settlement Networking and Business Development Building the practice is a real part of this role, not an afterthought. You'll be expected to: Develop and maintain referral relationships with community organisations, medical and allied health practitioners and other professionals Represent the firm at community, industry and networking events Turn existing client relationships into repeat and referral work Contribute to the firm's local profile and help shape how the Melbourne practice grows Key Details Practice: mixed plaintiff personal injury Billings: accountable for team billings and budgets Support: strong support, including a dedicated offshore paralegal team Business development: an active part of the role, with support from the firm Remuneration: $150,000 to $200,000 depending on experience plus super Bonus paid immediately on settlement About You 5+ years' PQE in plaintiff personal injury, admitted in Victoria Solid experience in TAC and WorkSafe matters, including serious injury applications and common law claims Experience in public liability or other plaintiff claims will be well regarded Comfortable running a busy practice and managing to a budget Confident building relationships and generating work, or keen to develop this Experienced in, or open to, working with offshore support staff Clear and practical with clients, insurers, doctors, experts and counsel A second language will be well regarded What's on Offer A strong bonus structure paid immediately on settlement, not held back until the end of the year.
