Scope and Responsibilities

The Market Data Oversight Associate/Senior Associate is responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of market data services, with a core focus on contract management, invoice validation, and expense oversight. This role ensures accurate financial controls across all market data subscriptions and vendor relationships, while supporting compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Management

  • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all market data contracts, licenses, and vendor agreements (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG,S&P, ICE).
  • Track contract terms, renewal dates, usage entitlements, and SLA commitments to ensure timely renegotiation or termination.
  • Liaise with vendors, legal, and procurement teams to review, negotiate, and execute new or amended contracts.
  • Ensure all contracts are stored, version-controlled, and accessible within the contract management system.
  • Monitor compliance with usage restrictions and data redistribution policies across internal teams.

Invoice Review & Validation

  • Review and validate all market data vendor invoices against contractual terms, entitlements, and purchase orders.
  • Identify billing discrepancies, overcharges, or unauthorized services and coordinate resolution with vendors.
  • Maintain accurate invoice tracking logs and ensure timely submission for payment processing.
  • Work closely with Finance/Accounts Payable to ensure invoices are coded correctly and settled within agreed payment terms.
  • Produce monthly invoice reconciliation reports for management review.

Expense Review & Cost Management

  • Monitor and review market data expenditure against approved budgets, flagging variances and cost overruns.
  • Conduct regular cost-benefit analyses of data subscriptions to optimize spend and eliminate redundant services.
  • Prepare periodic expense reports and spend dashboards for senior management and finance teams.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes by providing historical spend data and renewal cost projections.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through vendor consolidation, renegotiation, or service rationalization.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for market data vendors on commercial and operational matters.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Investment Operations, Risk, Compliance, Technology, etc.,) to understand data requirements.
  • Maintain vendor scorecards and track performance against SLAs and contractual obligations.
  • Facilitate vendor review meetings and escalate issues as needed.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • 8-10 years of experience in market data management, vendor management, or a similar financial operations role.
  • Strong knowledge of market data vendors and their product suites (Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG, S&P, Morningstar, Moody's, etc.).
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating financial contracts and vendor agreements.
  • Proficiency in invoice reconciliation, expense tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills; experience with ERP or contract management tools or Market Data management tool is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Understanding of financial instruments including fixed income, equities, derivatives, and corporate actions.
  • Experience supporting Valuation, Risk, or Compliance teams with data requirements.
  • Knowledge of GDPR, data usage compliance, and redistribution restrictions.
