Your role at a glance

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, monitoring, and enforcing the corporate-wide personnel safety, environmental, health and regulatory management programs. This position has the responsibility for multi-jurisdiction compliance programs and able to lead the company to world-class levels of personnel safety and environmental compliance. This position administers, directs, and monitors compliance with the company safety program to ensure company and project safety goals are met. The EHS Engineer consults, directs, and manages all aspects of environmental compliance including construction activities in support of air, water and solid waste regulation and permitting. Develops, organizes, and implements Environmental Health and Safety programs that meet or exceed local, regional, and national regulatory compliance standards, along with NTT corporate value statements.

Your role at a glance

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Construction Safety (EHS EMEA), this is a site-based EHS Construction Specialist role supporting NTT Global Data Centers' major data centre developments in Berlin. This role is very much a boots-on-the-ground construction safety role, embedded alongside project teams and contractors to ensure safe delivery of large-scale mission-critical infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will act as the local EHS lead across active construction sites, supporting all phases of delivery from initial civil works and structural packages, through MEP installation, fit-out, commissioning and handover.

Working closely with NTT construction managers, project directors, General Contractors and subcontractors, the individual will be responsible for driving compliance with NTT's EHS standards, local legislation and ISO 45001-aligned management systems, while actively promoting a proactive safety culture across site teams.

What you will do

  • Conducting regular construction site inspections and audits.
  • Monitoring contractor and subcontractor compliance.
  • Reviewing risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Leading incident investigations and corrective action programmes.
  • Delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness training.
  • Monitoring health and safety performance metrics and reporting trends.
  • Supporting implementation of EHS management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identifying hazards early and working with project teams to eliminate or mitigate risk before work activities commence.

Knowledge and attributes

  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001. Knowledge of other EU directives would be a plus.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Professional and tactful with ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Dedicated to excellent customer service and process improvement.
  • Ability to teach, mentor and lead.
  • Ability to work in a construction environment and to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a highly critical, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to make independent judgments to manage and facilitate company programs/policies as they relate to the safety of our work.

Academic qualifications and certifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (Chartered IOSH) or working towards.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience as an Environmental Health and Safety professional, with a minimum of two (4) years of construction experience.

  • Ability to travel up to 75%
  • Able to work flexible hours.
  • Responsible to carry a cell phone and provide 24 X 7 support.
