In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility, and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary, life-changing innovation at speed.
At the intersection of science and innovation, pRED’s Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) organisation enables the discovery and development of safe and effective therapeutics at optimal doses in relevant populations with a vision to power translation, continuously improve the accuracy of our predictions and accelerate the development of tomorrow's medicines. By seamlessly integrating our three core pillars—Translational Safety, Translational Pharmacology, and Biomarkers—we drive end-to-end asset development across the entire value chain, from target assessment to on-market support. Our mission is to continuously improve predictive accuracy, optimise dosing strategies for the right patient populations, and accelerate the development of tomorrow's safe and effective therapeutics.
As a Senior Associate - Genetics & Genomics Lab Expert, you play a pivotal role in accelerating early drug development within our Pharmaceutical Sciences team. This role serves as a vital bridge between high-throughput advanced wet-lab molecular biology and data-driven laboratory operations. You will spend your days executing hands-on laboratory work and leveraging modern digital tools to maximize scientific insights and advance our global therapeutic pipeline.
In this role, you will:
Develop, validate, and implement advanced genetics and genomics-based biomarker assays (including epigenetics, gene expression signatures, and circulating DNA/RNA) to characterize disease mechanisms.
Evaluate and apply cutting-edge genomics technologies , such as single-cell sequencing, spatial-omics, and digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), to maximize biological insights from precious, low-volume samples.
Drive digital integration by utilizing advanced digital lab infrastructure, automation tools, and electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) to ensure high-fidelity data tracking.
Collaborate within an agile ecosystem , partnering seamlessly across matrixed project teams with project leads, pathologists, and computational scientists to turn samples into actionable insights.
Facilitate technology transfer by leading the robust technical delivery of validated methodologies to external collaboration partners and Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
Inspire and mentor other scientists, associates, and interns, fostering a laboratory culture of continuous improvement, curiosity, and learning agility.
We are looking for an engaged scientific professional who thrives at the intersection of laboratory science and digital innovation.
To be successful in this role, you bring:
Education & Experience: A Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genomics, or a related life-sciences field, alongside solid hands-on experience in biomarker assay development and a minimum of 3 years of working experience.
Technical Expertise: Deep proficiency in molecular biology techniques (qPCR, ddPCR) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms, with a strong interest in executing high-quality experimental workflows.
Digital Fluency: Experience working within digital lab environments—such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and automated liquid handling platforms. Basic familiarity with data analysis tools or programming languages (e.g., R, Python) for initial data quality control is highly advantageous.
Compliance Mindset: Familiarity with implementing laboratory assays in compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and data integrity standards.
Collaborative Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex scientific methodologies and data quality metrics clearly to diverse project teams.
Ready to apply? If you are excited about this opportunity, we would love to hear from you! Please submit your application through our portal, ensuring you include your updated CV or resume, a cover letter detailing your interest and fit for the role, and copies of your diplomas and any relevant certificates
