THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is seeking an experienced Family Lawyer to join at Senior Associate level within a well-regarded Family Law practice that regularly handles complex, high-net-worth matters. A distinguishing feature of this practice is its close connection to the firm's commercial team: many family law matters involve a business or corporate structure, and navigating the division of matrimonial assets without damaging the value of the underlying business is a regular and interesting feature of the work.

This is a genuine hybrid role. While your primary focus will be Family Law, you will also spend a meaningful portion of your time - starting at around 25% and potentially more, depending on workflow - working on General Commercial matters, predominantly transactional and advisory in nature, with some exposure to commercial litigation.

KEY DETAILS

  Practice split:
  approximately 75% Family Law / 25% General Commercial (may vary with demand)

• 
  Commercial work:
  mainly transactional and advisory, with some litigation

• 
  Reporting lines:
  to the firm's joint CEOs, with commercial matters also reporting via a senior associate in the Commercial team; overall supervision of the Family Law practice is provided by the practice head

• 
  Caseload:
  includes high-net-worth matters

• 
  Billable expectation:
  in the order of 7 hours per day (can include business development activities such as writing articles)

• 
  Remuneration:
  competitive, benchmarked to market for the successful candidate's level of experience

ABOUT YOU

• 
  Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience in Family Law (NSW)

• 
  Comfortable working at the intersection of family and commercial law, including matters involving business assets and structures

• 
  Strong technical and drafting skills, with sound commercial judgement

• 
  Confident managing high-net-worth and sometimes complex matters

• 
  A collaborative team player, willing to contribute to the firm's profile through business development and thought leadership
