Job Description

· Auckland-based role covering New Zealand’s largest corporate and institutional clients

· Exposure to the full institutional banking product suite

· Working in the coverage banking team to deliver transactions and solutions to clients

The Team:

CBA’s Institutional Banking & Markets (“IB&M”) division manages the bank’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and international investors. IB&M provides a broad range of loan market, debt capital market, transaction banking and risk management solutions.

IB&M’s New Zealand coverage team covers clients across the Diversified Industries and Specialised Industries sectors, including clients operating in real estate, infrastructure, telecommunications, healthcare, industrials, consumer, and technology sectors.

Coverage bankers work closely with IB&M product teams and are responsible for leading Deal Teams to deliver solutions to clients across the full institutional banking product suite.

Impact and Contribution:

As a Senior Associate, you will be a core member of the relationship team, playing a critical role in client development and deal origination, and taking ownership of key workstreams across the transaction lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will include:

· Leading day-to-day execution of key transaction workstreams, working alongside a Director / Associate Director on credit analysis, structuring, documentation, settlement and in-life management, and proactively resolving issues as they arise.

· Preparing credit papers for new borrowing requests and existing transactions, identifying key risks and mitigants, assessing ESG risks, developing a clear credit recommendation and obtaining the required internal approvals.

· Completing financial model forecasts and financial analysis commentary used in the credit assessment process.

· Supporting the debt pricing process, including returns analysis and broader relationship evaluation.

· Coordinating stakeholders across credit risk, product teams, legal counsel, middle office and the broader CBA network, and keeping transactions moving to timetable.

· Monitoring portfolio and client risk, including financial performance, covenant compliance, KYC, waivers and breaches, and completing associated reporting and escalation.

· Maintaining accurate client, credit and transaction data across CBA’s systems and acting as an effective first line of defence in risk management.

· Contributing positively to team initiatives, process improvement and risk culture, and adhering to CBA’s Code of Conduct.

Desired Skills & Experience:

· Minimum three years relevant experience in corporate or institutional banking, corporate finance, credit, or a transaction-related professional services discipline. Candidates seeking to move into IB&M from a relevant adjacent background are encouraged to apply.

· A strong understanding of accounting and corporate finance fundamentals as they apply to credit analysis, together with sound commercial judgement and logical reasoning. Demonstrated knowledge of institutional banking products is preferred.

· Strong financial modelling capability and Microsoft Excel skills.

· The ability to prioritise multiple workstreams and deliver high-quality work to tight timelines.

· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and identify when escalation or guidance is required.

· Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to build credibility, work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups and contribute to client relationships.

· Knowledge of, and genuine interest in, business, financial markets and New Zealand commercial affairs.

· A relevant tertiary qualification in finance, law, accounting, economics or a related discipline. A completed or in-progress CA or CFA qualification would be well regarded.

This role sits within the New Zealand Banking Coverage team and forms part of a global business. You will work directly with senior bankers, credit executives and product specialists, with scope to take on greater transaction and client responsibility as your capability develops. We support professional qualifications, internal mobility across the Group and international opportunities within the IB&M network.
