Job Description

About the opportunity:

We are looking for a highly motivated early-career professional (title commensurate with experience) to join our Corporate Practice in Tokyo. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about communications and client engagement, ready to take on a new challenge in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will assist in the development and execution of integrated PR and corporate communications strategies across a range of industries. Fluency in both Japanese and English (TOEIC 800, TOEFL iBT 70 or above) is required, along with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds trust and confidence with clients and colleagues by consistently ensuring that executional work is delivered on time, within budget, and to an exceptional standard of quality.
  • Liaises with clients and supports communication efforts, including the preparation of account management materials such as timelines, activity reports, and documentation.
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills, effectively managing internal and external deadlines, and delivering contact reports, and media monitoring summaries.
  • Collaborates with diverse, cross-functional teams and partners with other business units to ensure clients receive the best expertise and integrated support that Weber Shandwick has to offer.
  • Proactively engages in media relations, identifying and driving media coverage opportunities that support client business and communications objectives.
  • Supports development of communication and media materials (e.g., fact sheets, pitch emails, backgrounders, targeted media lists), while monitoring top-tier, trade, and influencer media relevant to client priorities.
  • Conducts research and prepares executive summaries and analysis reports tailored to the needs of each account.
  • Tracks and analyzes media coverage using industry-standard measurement and listening tools to identify insights and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • At least 1-2 years of business experience, preferably within a service-oriented company.
  • Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong interest in corporate communications, with a particular enthusiasm for agency-side operations
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with quick response times.
  • Creative thinker and strong team player with a collaborative mindset.
