Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) sits at the centre of CommBank’s relationships with major corporates, governments and institutional investors. Within IB&M, Global Markets delivers risk management, financing and execution capabilities across interest rates, FX, credit, debt and commodities.

Capital Markets & Syndicate (CM&S) is where origination meets execution. We advise clients on primary market debt issuance and lead transactions across domestic and global markets, working closely with Debt Capital Markets, Syndicate, Sales & Trading and Loan Markets Origination.

Your impact

As a Senior Associate/Associate Director – Debt Capital Markets Origination, you’ll play a key role in originating and executing debt capital markets transactions for New Zealand clients, while supporting syndicate activity across CommBank’s global client base.

You’ll be responsible for developing client relationships, identifying issuance opportunities, leading execution and providing market insight across NZD and offshore markets. This is a highly visible role with direct exposure to clients, senior stakeholders and complex transactions.

You’ll report to the Director, Debt Capital Markets NZ.

What you’ll do:

• Manage and grow relationships with a portfolio of NZ corporate, financial and high‑grade issuer clients
• Identify funding opportunities and lead execution of private placements and public bond transactions
• Coordinate and deliver high‑quality pitches and RFP responses, covering funding strategy, market conditions, pricing and execution considerations
• Draft term sheets, pricing analyses, trade ideas and market announcements
• Support bookbuilding for CBA‑led bond issues across NZD and offshore markets
• Provide clients with timely insights on market conditions, issuance windows and funding alternatives
• Partner closely with DCM, Syndicate, Sales & Trading and offshore teams across Sydney, Asia, London, Amsterdam and New York
• Support global syndicate activity, including Asia private placement and benchmark issuance
• Contribute to broader client coverage strategies, maximising outcomes across lending, DCM, derivatives and ancillary products
• Uphold CommBank’s strong risk culture and disciplined origination standards
  

About you:

• Strong knowledge of the NZ corporate and institutional banking market
• Solid understanding of fixed income products, including cash bonds and derivatives
• Commercially minded with strong analytical and numerical capability
• Confident communicator with the ability to engage credibly with clients and senior stakeholders
• High energy, adaptable and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, transaction‑driven environment
• Strong technical skills (MS Office; Bloomberg experience preferred)
• Demonstrated risk mindset aligned to CommBank expectations
  

Qualifications.

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Business or a related discipline
