The Role

The Senior Associate – Operations (Valencia, Spain) is a key hire supporting the build-out of Unitas’ operations capability in Valencia. This role will focus on delivering high-quality operational support across core back-office processes, with an initial emphasis on Payments & Transactions and Investor Onboarding.

As Unitas’s first hire in the Valencia office, which is already established and has more than 100 employees based there, the successful candidate will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of their responsibilities while contributing to the establishment of a scalable and efficient local operations function.

This role will report to the Head of Service who is a Director of Apex Unitas and is based in London and will initially have no direct reports but will eventually lead a team of junior employees in Valencia.

The Senior Associate will have a large degree of collaboration with colleagues in London throughout the day.

The position is full-time, permanent and hybrid.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end payment processes, including multi-stage data extraction, validation, manipulation, and input across multiple systems in a timely manner, ensuring appropriate controls are followed throughout

• Maintain comprehensive supporting documentation for all payment activity, ensuring auditability and adherence to internal procedures

• Monitor bank account activity, investigate breaks, and resolve transaction queries • Perform detailed data processing across internal systems and banking platforms, ensuring accuracy and consistency of records

• Support reporting of payment and transaction activity to clients, ensuring completeness and integrity of information

• Respond to client and internal queries relating to payments and transactions in a clear and professional manner

Control & Risk Awareness

• Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, ideally including the UK’s FCA client asset and money regulation

• Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and control frameworks

• Escalate issues and risks in a timely and appropriate manner

Team Build-Out Contribution

• Operate independently as the initial Valencia hire, demonstrating ownership and accountability

• Support the development of processes and documentation to enable future team scaling

• Provide informal guidance and support to more junior team members as the local team grows (initially no formal management responsibility)

• Contribute to building a strong, collaborative team culture in Valencia

Skills & Experience

• Relevant experience in financial services operations

• Background in fund services, custody, or platform operations environments

• Experience working with financial services back-office systems and workflows

• Strong understanding of payments and transactions processes within an operational setting

• Awareness of regulatory environments, ideally including FCA rules and client money requirements (CASS or equivalent)

• Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyse and manipulate operational data

Working Environment

Valencia (Spain) based role with high degree of contact and collaboration with London colleagues

Hybrid working model three days in the office, two from home

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced operations professional to join Unitas at an early stage of its Valencia build-out.
