Overview

Brun-Way Highways Operations is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Engineer (Acting Chief Engineer) to support the operation, maintenance, rehabilitation, and long-term management of a major highway infrastructure network.

The successful candidate will initially serve as Acting Chief Engineer during a maternity leave period before transitioning into a permanent Asset Management / Project Manager role. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine senior technical leadership with long-term responsibility for strategic asset planning, capital program delivery, and lifecycle management of critical transportation infrastructure.

Your role

  • Provide leadership, technical direction, and oversight to the Engineering Department while supporting highway operations and maintenance activities.
  • Lead asset management programs for pavement, bridges, drainage, geotechnical, traffic control, and roadside infrastructure assets.
  • Manage engineering assessments, inspections, condition evaluations, and rehabilitation planning to support long-term asset performance and contractual compliance.
  • Develop and implement asset management strategies, lifecycle plans, capital investment programs, budgets, and performance reporting.
  • Maintain asset inventories, condition databases, forecasting models, and key performance indicators to support informed decision-making.
  • Lead rehabilitation and capital projects from planning through delivery, including scope development, technical specifications, procurement, scheduling, contract administration, and budget management.
  • Manage consultants, contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary engineering liaison with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Review and approve engineering reports, technical recommendations, designs, and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Support the OMR Manager and assume leadership responsibilities during periods of absence.

About you

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with APEGNB.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in transportation, infrastructure, or civil engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Strong knowledge of asset management principles, rehabilitation planning, budgeting, and contract administration.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with New Brunswick DTI standards and specifications.
  • Experience in OMR, DBFOM, P3, or similar infrastructure delivery environments.
  • Knowledge of pavement management systems, FWD analysis, IRI, rutting assessments, and lifecycle forecasting.
  • Winter maintenance knowledge considered an asset.
