The Senior Aquatics Assistant supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality, developmentally appropriate aquatics programs, activities, services, and special events for youth ages 6-18. The position also assists with swim instruction, swim team activities, lifeguard support, pool operations, and maintaining a safe aquatics environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Commitment to Safety and Excellence
- Assist the Aquatics Program Manager in maintaining a safe aquatics environment in accordance with all safety regulations, standards, and emergency procedures.
- Vigilantly observe swimmers, enforce pool and facility rules, and respond to emergencies using appropriate rescue, first aid, and CPR techniques.
- Assist with the pool facility operations, including water testing, monitoring, adjustments, routine maintenance, and cleaning as assigned.
- Secure and maintain materials, equipment, and other resources belonging to the aquatics program. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized program area.
Technical and Professional Knowledge
- Under the supervision of the Aquatics Program Manager, serve as an Assistant Swim Team Coach by teaching proper stroke techniques and preparing participants for competitive swim meets.
- Demonstrate proficient swimming ability and the physical fitness necessary to perform rescues, provide instruction, and monitor the aquatics area.
- Participate in individual and group supervision sessions and professional development opportunities as approved, provided, or directed.
Aquatics Programming and Behavior Management
- Assist the Aquatics Program Manager in delivering a variety of developmentally appropriate aquatics programs, including open swim, swim lessons, swim team, pool games, water-related field trips, and lifeguard training.
- Assist in the supervision, redirection, and behavior management of members participating in aquatics programs and services and throughout the clubhouse as appropriate.
Communication, Collaboration, and Teamwork
- Participate in collaborative programs, events, and field trips with staff from other clubhouse departments, BGCB locations, and community organizations as appropriate.
- Communicate pool rules, safety practices, and program instructions clearly and effectively to swimmers, members, families, and staff.
- Other related duties as specified by the Aquatics Program Manager, Executive Director, or Director of Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- High School degree or GED required.
- Experience delivering aquatics programs, swim instruction, or lifeguard services for youth.
- Knowledge of swimming techniques, pool operations, water safety, and lifeguard practices.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety Instructor certifications.
- CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
- Knowledge of youth development principles and behavior-management practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work clubhouse hours, including evenings and weekends, as seasons and service needs change.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred
- Associate’s or bachelor's degree.
- Previous experience in a youth-serving, community-based, educational, or nonprofit organization.
- Lifeguard Instructor certification.
- Experience supervising or supporting lifeguards.
- Microsoft Office and web competency.
TRAVEL
Travel between BGCB sites and to activities as needed.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary - $24.00/hour - $26.50/hour - commensurate with experience and a great work environment
