Job Description

The Senior Approvals Advisor provides expert support and guidance in managing the statutory approvals and permits required for mining operations and expansion projects at Ravenswood Gold. The role ensures compliance with all relevant legislation, manages regulatory relationships, and contributes to the development and implementation of approvals strategies. This position also supports the Approvals and Community Superintendent in delivering timely approvals outcomes and continuous improvement in processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation, submission, and renewal of statutory approvals, licences, and permits in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert advice to operations and management regarding approvals, compliance obligations, and statutory reporting.
  • Monitor changes to relevant environmental, planning, and mining legislation and provide guidance on operational impact.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure approvals deliverables are met on time.
  • Review and provide input to Environmental Management Plans and other operational documents to ensure compliance with approvals conditions.
  • Liaise with regulators, consultants, and contractors to resolve approvals-related issues.
  • Support audits, inspections, and investigations related to approvals compliance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in approvals processes and systems. Mentor junior team members on approvals management best practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Planning, Law, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience managing statutory approvals and regulatory compliance in mining, resources, or heavy industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Queensland environmental, planning, and mining legislation.
  • Strong experience in preparing and submitting approvals documentation and reports.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships with regulators, consultants, and operational teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail, project management, and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff desirable.
  • Current manual driver’s licence and willingness to work on-site in Ravenswood or surrounding regions.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Approvals Management: 100% of statutory approvals, permits, and licences submitted and maintained on time and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Compliance: Zero breaches of approvals conditions; all regulatory requests responded to within required timeframes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain >90% positive feedback from regulators and internal stakeholders regarding approvals management.
  • Reporting Accuracy: All approvals-related reporting completed on time and free of material errors.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement at least one approvals process improvement initiative per year.
  • Team Development: Mentor junior staff with measurable improvements in their approvals knowledge and capabilities.
