Job Description

Job Purpose

The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for delivering technical expertise and engineering solutions that support Weatherford's products and services across the Australian market. This role partners closely with Sales, Operations, Product Line, and customers to develop fit-for-purpose solutions that optimize drilling, completion, production, intervention, and well construction operations while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and Weatherford's quality and HSE requirements.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle—from opportunity identification and solution design to implementation, field support, and post-job evaluation—helping drive customer satisfaction and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced application engineering support for Weatherford products, technologies, and services.
  • Analyze customer well requirements, operational challenges, and technical specifications to develop optimized engineering solutions.
  • Prepare technical proposals, equipment recommendations, application designs, calculations, and cost estimates.
  • Support the Sales and Business Development teams by providing technical expertise during customer meetings, presentations, and tender submissions.
  • Review customer specifications, drilling programs, completion plans, and engineering documentation to ensure technical compliance.
  • Collaborate with Product Line, Operations, Manufacturing, and Global Engineering teams to develop customized solutions for complex customer applications.
  • Provide technical support during field operations, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Participate in pre-job planning, risk assessments, operational readiness reviews, and post-job technical evaluations.
  • Ensure all engineering solutions comply with Weatherford standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, engineering reports, lessons learned, and application best practices.
  • Deliver technical training and knowledge sharing to customers, field personnel, and internal teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve product performance, operational efficiency, and customer outcomes.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships while promoting Weatherford's technologies and value-added solutions.
  • Uphold Weatherford's Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (QHSSE) policies and promote a strong safety culture.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of oilfield operations, including drilling, completions, production, intervention, or well construction.
  • Advanced application engineering and technical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret well data, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and operational procedures.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Strong project planning and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering software relevant to the assigned product line.
  • Knowledge of tender preparation, technical documentation, and commercial support.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in Application Engineering, Field Engineering, Technical Support, or Product Line Engineering within the oil and gas industry
  • Experience with Weatherford products and services or equivalent oilfield service technologies is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of drilling, completions, production, intervention, or artificial lift applications.
  • Experience supporting offshore and/or onshore oil and gas operations.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing technical proposals, engineering designs, and customer solutions.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, API specifications, and engineering best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including offshore locations, as required.
