At ASML, you will work at the forefront of semiconductor innovation, helping to solve some of the most advanced system and performance challenges in the industry. Our Applications Engineering teams create value by enabling customers to successfully adopt ASML solutions through deep technical expertise and close collaboration.

As a Senior Applications Pathfinding Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping next-generation customer solutions. This is a highly visible, customer-facing technical role focused on system-level pathfinding, node definition, and integrated solution development

You will operate at the intersection of customer requirements, product capabilities, and technology roadmap decisions, helping define and validate the right solutions for advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

This role combines system engineering, pathfinding, and applications expertise to guide solution direction, support new technology initiatives, and deliver measurable impact for customers.

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead customer-facing pathfinding and system engineering efforts to translate future technology needs into scalable solutions
  • Define and represent the customer Concept of Operation, ensuring alignment with real-world use cases and constraints
  • Act as a key technical interface between customers and internal teams across system engineering, product development, and business lines
  • Drive alignment and progress in new technology pathfinding (NTP) and other strategic programs
  • Collaborate with Technology Development (TD) teams within the customer’s global development model and support cross-site projects and initiatives
  • Identify solution gaps, risks, and required functionality to meet customer performance and integration targets
  • Ensure solutions align with ASML’s product portfolio architecture and long-term roadmap
  • Support customer roadmap alignment by bringing structure and clarity to pathfinding discussions and technical planning
  • Lead or support node introduction, transition, and ramp activities
  • Design and execute experiments to validate performance and demonstrate solution value
  • Analyze data and translate findings into clear technical insights and recommendations
  • Drive resolution of complex system, lithography, or metrology challenges
  • Deliver technical presentations to customers and internal stakeholders to support decision-making and solution adoption

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar technical role
  • 5+ years of experience in semiconductor or advanced manufacturing
  • Experience in system engineering, applications, pathfinding, product development, or customer-facing technical roles
  • Strong analytical background with experience using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or JMP
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and communicate results clearly
  • Experience working across teams and influencing technical direction in a matrixed environment
  • Experience with EUV, DUV, metrology, or system integration is strongly preferred

Skills

We are looking for a technically strong and collaborative problem-solver who can connect customer needs to system-level solutions.

Key strengths include:

  • Systems thinking and structured problem solving
  • Ability to translate ambiguity into clear plans and actions
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder influence
  • Ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment
  • High ownership, accountability, and follow-through
  • Curiosity and motivation to continuously grow

Why Join ASML?

About ASML

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.

Who are our people?

While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Across ASML, we have dedicated teams that manage customer support, communications and media, IT, software development and more. Every team in the company is essential for pushing our technology and the industry forward.

If you love to tackle challenges and innovate in a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment with all the flexibility and freedom to unleash your full potential, ASML is the place to be.
