Job Description

Arlington County's Department of Technology Services (DTS) is hiring a Senior Applications Developer (Microsoft Technologies) to guide and develop the County's Microsoft Office 365 (M365) and SharePoint initiatives. Reporting to the IT Program Manager in the Digital Innovation and Cloud team this position will expand the Division's capacity to deploy future initiatives and leverage the County's investment in Microsoft technologies.

The Senior Applications Developer (Microsoft Technologies) will participate in the architecture, design, configuration, development and deployment of complex enterprise solutions and ensure these solutions are aligned with DTS' technology objectives and strategies. The selected candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong background in delivering Microsoft and Cloud (Azure and AWS) technologies as well as the ability to communicate complex technical approaches to non-technical staff stakeholders.

Specific duties:

  • Developing technical applications using SharePoint, .Net Framework, ASP.NET, C#, SQL Server, JavaScript, Microsoft VisualStudio, Dynamics CRM, Microsoft PowerPlatform, Microsoft Azure, PowerBi, Microsoft Copilot Studio and M365 Copilot;
  • Providing consultation and hands-on implementation support related to M365 products; and
  • Leading efforts to design, develop, implement, and administer collaboration portals, enterprise searches, business processes, and business intelligence solutions using M365 technology as well as AI/ML services.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter and a seasoned application developer with the ability to manage multiple, concurrent, high-visibility projects at once. This individual has strong written and oral communication skills, critical thinking skills, and has an in-depth understanding of Cloud technology, application programming, database and system design, as well as Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client/server architectures.

Minimum:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or related area plus considerable experience in the following areas:

  • Developing technical applications using SharePoint, .Net Framework, ASP.NET, C#, JavaScript;
  • Deploying M365 and new feature sets from Microsoft such as Copilot;
  • Developing relational databases using SQL Server or similar software product;
  • Working in an Agile development environment; and
  • Previous experience developing AI/ML solutions.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience utilizing Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerPlatform, Microsoft Copilot, Dynamics (D365) CRM and/or using SQL Server, Azure OpenAI, AI/ML services.

Alternatively, the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite.

Work location: Bozman Building, 2100 Clarendon Blvd, Suite 702. Arlington, VA

Work hours: This is a full-time, hybrid 40 hour/week position with work performed during core business hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
