Oil & Gas Project Applications Engineer (APAC)

Beijing | Applications Engineering | Customer-Facing Technical Role

We're looking for a motivated Project Applications Engineer to join our APAC team. In this role, you will build the technical foundation for supporting major Oil & Gas customers across Asia— and you will also be intentionally developed for a future transition into our regional Sales organization.

What You Will Do

Technical Leadership & Solution Design

  • Apply your knowledge of turbomachinery, mechanical/electrical engineering, and Oil & Gas processes to develop optimized equipment configurations.

  • Translate customer specifications into clear technical comments, accurate scopes of supply, and compelling technical/commercial proposals.

  • Solve challenging engineering issues by working closely with Engineering, Project Management, Quality, and key suppliers to meet the customer needs.

Customer Engagement & Commercial Influence

  • Build relationships with EPCs, National Oil Companies, and FPSO contractors across APAC. These relationships are pivotal to understand and identify future opportunities and project critical success factors, that are transformed into WINNING sales strategies to secure new equipment business.

  • Support field sales teams with technical expertise and collaborate directly with customers to shape project strategies.

  • Participate in complex negotiations by defending our product solutions and guiding customers toward the best-fit technical approach.

Strategic & Business Development Exposure

  • Stay on top of competitor capabilities, market trends, and customer buying drivers.

  • Learn how commercial risks are managed, how pricing strategies are built, and how we position ourselves to win new equipment business.

  • Gain increasing autonomy and knowledge of Solar's product line and services as you progress toward a customer-facing Sales Engineer role.

What You Need to Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience—ideally with turbomachinery exposure.

  • Solid understanding of turbomachinery principles, Oil & Gas applications, and rotating equipment.

  • Strong communication skills, customer orientation, and the ability to collaborate across functions and cultures.

  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills; Able to effectively influence a variety of business partners, peers and customers.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to interface cross culturally in APAC and the world as well as cross functionally.

  • High drive, learning agility, and a sense of urgency in delivering results.

  • Excellent English proficiency (spoken and written).

  • MBA or business coursework (not required but beneficial).
