Overview

The Senior Application Developer/Engineer/Programmer will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software applications within AWS cloud and on-premises environments. This position requires extensive experience in full-stack software development and cloud-based application architecture, along with the ability to translate complex business requirements into efficient, scalable technical solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in AWS services, ESRI geospatial technologies, and AI tools such as Claude to improve development productivity. This role also requires strong analytical skills, technical leadership, and experience delivering high-quality solutions in Agile environments.

Work Location and Schedule: Full-time onsite at a federal government facility in Washington, D.C.

Period of Performance Until 12/31/26 with the possibility of an extension.  

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex system requirements and design cloud-native software solutions in AWS.
  • Develop and maintain geospatial applications using ESRI technologies, including map creation and geocoding.
  • Leverage Claude and other AI tools to enhance development productivity and code quality.
  • Use Terraform for Infrastructure as Code and Amazon ECS for containerized deployments.
  • Write clean, efficient code following best practices and develop comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Develop frontend applications using Angular.
  • Manage software configuration in GitLab and optimize applications for cloud performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies.
  • Conduct testing, debugging, and code reviews to ensure quality.
  • Support production systems and troubleshoot issues.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Software Development: Minimum of seven years of programmer/analyst experience developing software according to SDLCs, with a proven record of delivering complex applications.
  • AWS and Modern Tools: Minimum of three years of hands-on experience with AWS services and modern web frameworks, including Angular, .NET, ECS, and Terraform.
  • AI-Assisted Development: Experience using Claude or similar AI tools, such as ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot, to improve development productivity, code generation, and problem-solving.
  • Geospatial Development: Experience with ESRI technologies, including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, related APIs, interactive maps, and geocoding functionality.
  • Technical Analysis: Strong analytical skills with experience in system analysis, solution design, and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Database Experience: Knowledge of relational and NoSQL database development, design, and optimization.
  • Team Leadership: Experience providing technical direction and ensuring project deadlines are met.

Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related IT field, or equivalent experience.
  • Development Languages and Frameworks: Strong programming skills, proficiency in Angular for frontend development, and experience with modern web development practices.
  • AWS and Infrastructure: Experience with AWS services, including ECS, S3, RDS, Lambda, and API Gateway; Terraform for Infrastructure as Code; Docker and ECS containerization; and cloud-native architecture patterns.
  • AI Tools: Experience using Claude for code generation, debugging, and documentation; familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows; and prompt engineering for development use cases.
  • ESRI: Experience with the ArcGIS platform, JavaScript API, geocoding services, spatial analysis, and AWS integration.
  • DevOps and Tools: GitLab for version control and CI/CD, GitLab pipelines, and Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Proficiency in creating technical documentation, including data flow diagrams and architecture documentation.
  • AWS certifications are a plus.

Performance Period: Through the end of the year, with the possibility of extension.

Salary: $126,058 - $128,860
