[What the role is]
What the role is
You will be part of a team focused on building technical capabilities for high-level feasibility assessments and the research of infrastructure requirements for advanced nuclear energy systems. You will develop expertise in researching the technical requirements and physical constraints associated with emerging nuclear energy technologies, ensuring that all theoretical frameworks align with international guidelines (e.g., IAEA) and contribute to national land-use efficiency studies.
[What you will be working on]
What you will be working on:
1. Developing Technical Capabilities for Site Hazard Research
Methodology Development: Contribute to the development of technical frameworks for studying site suitability and resilience, including geological, geophysical, geotechnical, and seismological (GGGS) research.
Hazard Analysis Research: Assist in developing analytical models to study external natural and human-induced hazards to understand long-term infrastructure resilience.
Environmental Impact Studies: Conduct research into radiological, biodiversity, and environmental impact assessment methodologies to establish high-level safety and ecological benchmarks.
2. Developing capabilities for relevant IAEA Infrastructure Areas
Build and apply deep institutional expertise across the IAEA Milestones approach, specifically assessing siting and operational implications for:
Safety & Security: Nuclear Safety, Security, Safeguards, and Radiation Protection.
Lifecycle Management: Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Radioactive Waste Management.
Crisis Readiness: Comprehensive Emergency Planning and Preparedness.
3. Infrastructure & Urban Integration Planning
Systems Integration Research: Collaborate with relevant agencies to study the physical requirements for integrating advanced nuclear energy facilities into urban environments, including cooling water systems and grid connectivity.
Spatial Constraint Mapping: Develop models to understand land-use trade-offs for various technology classes.
[What we are looking for]
Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in the following fields will be preferred.
Civil / Environmental Engineering or Geosciences; Urban Planning.
Geology or Geotechnical Engineering;
Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or Ecology.
Engineering or other related technical fields.
Supply chain management
Qualification in other related fields are welcome to apply.
Preferred Experience:
8–10 years of relevant working experience in related technical roles.
Experience with the site assessment of large-scale infrastructure projects in Singapore.
Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for major projects.
Prior exposure to safety-critical or high-security infrastructure projects.
Demonstrated or adjacent but relevant expertise in the following areas (Nuclear safeguards and security; Front-end / back-end fuel cycle and radioactive waste management; Emergency planning and radiation protection) would be a plus.
Competencies and Other Requirements
Site assessment for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Geotechnical Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering Management.
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and risk modelling will be a plus.
Familiarity with the IAEA Safety Standards.
Technical writing for regulatory submissions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesise technical, and policy considerations.
Openness to being stationed overseas for extended periods (3 months –2 years) for specialised training and attachments.
As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment.
