The Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) organization is responsible for managing relationships with millions of Merchants and Partners around the world that facilitate American Express acceptance and enabling the day-to-day operations of our company’s payment network. The newly created U.S. Merchant Marketing, Global Marketing Execution & Analytics (UMGEA) team is responsible for leveraging marketing and analytics capabilities to drive sustainable growth through customer, partner, and product insights that inform the merchant value proposition, channel strategy, and investment optimization, while leveraging the full range of enterprise assets and partnerships for GMNS customers and ensuring we remain compliant as a network. The GMNS Analytics team within UMGEA is responsible for partnering with global markets to drive profitable growth, accelerating acceptance and amplifying the value of Amex acceptance to Merchants, bank partners and Card Members at scale. We offer powerful data and actionable insights to attract new businesses to engage with Amex, help existing businesses improve performance and capitalize on new opportunities.

The GMNS Analytics team is seeking a Senior Analyst to support the Strategic Analytics function. This role sits within a strategic and bespoke analytics team focused on solving complex business problems across the GMNS organization. The Analyst will partner closely with business stakeholders to identify opportunities, frame innovative analytical approaches, and develop data-driven solutions that drive growth, improve customer and merchant outcomes, and inform strategic decision-making.

This role requires a strong analytical mindset, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to navigate ambiguity. The successful candidate will leverage data to uncover insights across a broad range of business areas including merchant acquisition, engagement, retention, marketing effectiveness, portfolio performance, and growth strategies.

The role also offers opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, including Machine Learning and GenAI, to accelerate insight generation, improve productivity, and enhance business outcomes.

  • Lead strategic analytics engagements by partnering with business stakeholders to understand challenges, define problem statements, and develop data-driven solutions.
  • Translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical approaches by identifying relevant data sources, defining success metrics, and developing actionable recommendations.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis, segmentation, hypothesis testing, trend analysis, and deep-dive investigations to uncover opportunities, risks, and business drivers.
  • Develop compelling, stakeholder-ready insights and narratives that clearly communicate findings, business implications, and recommended actions.
  • Challenge existing assumptions, methodologies, and business processes by applying critical thinking and a data-driven perspective to improve decision-making.
  • Build scalable analytical solutions and contribute to the development of repeatable capabilities when successful POCs demonstrate broader enterprise value.
  • Support dashboard development and data visualization efforts to communicate insights effectively and enable ongoing monitoring of business performance.
  • Leverage GenAI, machine learning, and emerging analytical tools to accelerate insight generation, enhance productivity, and explore innovative approaches to solving business problems.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in analytical domain.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity, creativity, and a passion for experimentation, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Ability to drive insights from data, manage multiple projects and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills with ability to build relationships and challenge the status quo.
    Excellent business writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively, build relationships and influence at all levels.
  • Advanced level SQL skills with extensive experience writing complex queries and working with large-scale datasets; experience with Google BigQuery strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, experimentation, automation, and advanced analytics.
  • Familiarity with Tableau or other data visualization tools for dashboard development and insight communication. Experience in Machine Learning (building classification, prediction and forecasting models) and GenAI is a plus.

Academic Background:

  • Bachelors in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/ Engineering/Data Science with relevant experience.
  • Post Graduation in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Engineering/Management is a plus.
