Job Description

Senior Analyst (Supervisory Frameworks and Systems)

Are you motivated by the opportunity to help strengthen and safeguard New Zealand’s financial system? We have an exciting opportunity in the Supervisory Frameworks and Systems team within our Financial Stability Group.

Te tūranga – The role

The Financial Stability Group plays a critical role in identifying, assessing, and responding to risks and vulnerabilities in New Zealand’s financial system. This includes supporting macro-prudential policy decisions, strengthening supervisory approaches, and ensuring financial institutions are appropriately regulated and monitored. The purpose of the Supervisory Frameworks and Systems team is to enable modern, risk-based and insight driven supervision of regulated entities through efficiency, consistency and digital capability.

The group’s work ensures that risks are well understood, effectively communicated, and translated into clear policy and supervisory actions. This supports senior decision-making, cross-Bank committees, and the Reserve Bank’s broader financial stability objectives.

In this role you will:

  • Conduct research and analysis to support RBNZ strategies and priorities.

  • Prepare high quality written analysis using decision-making frameworks to recommend options for senior leadership.

  • Communicate insights clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Contribute to advice for senior decision makers and Reserve Bank committees.

  • Ensure compliance with procedures and deliver quality outputs within agreed timeframes.

  • Assess workflows and drive process improvements.

  • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.

  • Support delivery of the Bank’s supervisory modernisation strategy.

  • Lead analytical projects and coach junior colleagues.

Ō pūkenga – About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in economics, statistics, data science, finance, or related disciplines.

  • Two to three years of relevant professional experience in the fields of banking, insurance, financial markets, law, accounting, macroeconomics, economics, or at other central banks.

  • Strong analytical, research, and conceptual skills, with experience in change management, continuous improvement, business analysis, or project management.

  • Understanding of financial systems, particularly NZ banking and regulatory frameworks.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders and build strong relationships.

  • Proactive, resilient, and collaborative, with sound judgement and a holistic approach to complex issues.
