At Westpac, we're building the future of customer engagement through AI. We're seeking a hands-on Senior AI Engineer to help operationalise AI-first practices across our Digital and Contact Centre platforms, enabling safe, scalable and intelligent customer experiences at enterprise scale.

How you'll make an impact

As a Senior AI Engineer, you'll play a key role in translating AI strategy and architecture into practical engineering outcomes. You'll work across multiple squads to establish best practice, accelerate adoption and improve the reliability and quality of AI-enabled solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Embed AI-first engineering practices across Digital and Contact Centre platforms.

• Translate architecture and design principles into scalable engineering solutions.

• Champion best practices across prompt engineering, AI agents, orchestration frameworks and memory patterns.

• Support engineering teams to improve model performance, reliability and operational excellence.

• Drive adoption of reusable AI components and standardised delivery patterns.

• Implement Responsible AI, governance, safety and compliance guardrails.

• Reduce AI-related risks and improve the quality and consistency of customer experiences.

• Coach and uplift engineering capability across AI technologies and practices.

What you'll bring

• Proven experience delivering production-grade AI solutions in complex enterprise environments.

• Strong expertise in AI Engineering, including prompt engineering, agent frameworks and model integration.

• Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), orchestration frameworks and AI-enabled workflows.

• Strong understanding of Responsible AI, AI safety, governance and compliance requirements.

• Experience working across cloud-native and modern software engineering environments.

• Ability to translate architectural principles into practical implementation patterns.

• Strong stakeholder engagement, coaching and mentoring capabilities.
