Job Description

Fairness feels good

Make a real impact at AFCA. Where fairness drives every decision. Help us deliver world-class, independent complaints resolution for Australians. As a not-for-profit and progressive financial ombudsman, we’re championing positive change. Achieving our purpose takes progressive thinking, accountability and resilience. At AFCA, our inclusive leadership values every voice. We offer our people flexible work options, thoughtful benefits and opportunities to deepen expertise. Flourish in a diverse, caring culture. Feel the difference of belonging to an organisation intentionally designed to put people first.

The Senior Agile Coach will play a pivotal part in shaping how AFCA delivers. You’ll lead the embedment of scaled agile ways of working across digital, technology and operational teams, crucial to bringing momentum, consistency and confidence to delivery.

This is a hands‑on role combining coaching, change leadership and practical execution. From working side‑by‑side with teams to designing fit‑for‑purpose Jira workflows, you’ll lift delivery flow, predictability and outcomes in a complex, highly regulated environment undergoing significant transformation.

This is initially a 2 year max term contract.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and embed Scaled Agile (SAFe) ways of working across portfolios, programs and teams
  • Facilitate organisation‑wide ceremonies such as Big Room Planning and Quarterly PI Planning
  • Act as a hands‑on delivery coach, working directly with squads, ARTs and leaders to uplift execution and effectiveness
  • Design, implement and optimise Jira workflows, boards, reporting and delivery metrics
  • Build and mature cross‑functional teams across digital, technology and operational areas
  • Coach Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Delivery Leads and senior leaders on agile roles, ceremonies and accountabilities
  • Support PI planning, dependency management, sprint ceremonies and continuous improvement practices
  • Enable effective delivery across blended in‑house and vendor teams, aligned to agreed ways of working
  • Foster a culture of transparency, continuous improvement and outcome‑focused delivery
  • Lead with confidence in fast‑paced, complex and high‑transformation environments

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

  • Proven experience leading Scaled Agile implementations at scale.
  • Strong background in hands‑on agile delivery, not purely advisory or coaching roles.
  • Deep, practical experience implementing and configuring Jira for agile and scaled agile delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience working across digital, technology and operational teams.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated environments (financial services, government or similar strongly preferred).
  • Experience working with vendor and partner‑led delivery models.
  • SAFe certification (e.g. SPC, SAFe Agile Coach) highly desirable.
  • Pragmatic, delivery‑focused and comfortable rolling up sleeves.
  • Strong change leadership and coaching capability at team and senior leadership levels.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  • Growth mindset with a can‑do attitude and resilience in high‑change environments.
  • Clear, confident communicator able to translate agile principles into practical behaviours.

Additional Information

  • Silver AWEI Accreditation 2025 – Recognised for LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion.
  • Accredited Family Friendly Workplace – Supporting work-life balance and inclusivity.
  • Hybrid working – Flexible arrangements with two days a week in our modern offices designed for collaboration and wellbeing.
  • Additional and inclusive leave options – Flexible public holidays, gender affirmation leave, women’s health leave, and bonus paid time off over the end of year holiday period.

To apply

If you’re passionate about fairness and believe your skills align with this role, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every single criterion.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, cultures, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. If you require any accessibility support during the recruitment process, please reach out to our team at Careers@afca.org.au.
