Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is looking for an experienced Senior Advisor, Enterprise Communications to join our Enterprise Communications team.

This is an influential role where you’ll plan and deliver high-quality internal and external communications for complex enterprise programmes and projects.

You’ll be a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, helping shape clear, engaging narratives that connect people to the work we do and the outcomes we deliver for New Zealand.

Working at the heart of the organisation, you’ll bring a strong strategic lens, excellent writing skills, and the confidence to operate in a complex, fast-moving environment where coordination and judgement matter.

Our ideal candidate will bring previous experience from the public or infrastructure sectors, a strong stakeholder management background, and a collaborative, can-do approach.

Ō Pūmanawa | What we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience delivering strategic communications and engagement at senior advisor level
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and simply
  • Experience acting as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, including senior leaders
  • Sound knowledge of communications channels, tools, and techniques across internal and external audiences
  • Ability to identify stories, narratives, and linkages that highlight enterprise-wide outcomes
  • Experience working in collaborative or matrix environments
  • Confidence operating in fast‑paced, high‑profile, and issue‑sensitive contexts
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to build understanding of, Te Ao Māori, tikanga, Te Reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • A tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline is required
