The Senior Advisor - Data Governance role is vital in supporting on how data is organized, managed, and leveraged within the T&C division to meet both current and future requirements. You will play a key part in supporting the T&C division with the, assessment, education, delivery, and implementation of Data risk and governance framework, aligning with the ANZ Risk Framework.

As part of the broader T&C Strategy, Planning & Delivery Governance team, this role serves as a central point of contact for the entire T&C division. Collaboration will be essential, as you will work closely with colleagues from the Data Management Office (framework owners), Group Legal, Technology Partners, Privacy Office, and the business team within T&C functions to shape and deliver a range of initiatives, alongside ongoing BAU work. Your contributions will have a direct impact on maintaining the integrity and compliance of our data management systems.

What will your day look like?

In this role, you’ll find yourself at the heart of data governance, reporting, and risk management, driving change across the organisation. Expect to take ownership of the following:

  • Support implementation of data risk frameworks and strengthen data governance (quality, lineage, controls)
  • Partner with T&C business, legal, data office, privacy office and technology partners to design and embed effective data controls
  • Lead data risk assessments and identify risks across systems, processes, and value chains
  • Review control effectiveness, identify gaps, and drive remediation
  • Support regulatory change, compliance, and responsible data use (privacy, AI governance & responsible use of data)
  • Monitor data risk using NFR analytics, trends, and other key risk indicators
  • Develop and maintain metrics and tools to measure data risk and control effectiveness
  • Provide risk insights and reporting to support data owner, senior management and governance forums
  • Represent the business in data risk and governance forums, providing expert guidance
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure alignment on data risk practices

What will you bring?

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment. To be successful, you’ll need:

  • Demonstrate deep expertise in data risk management, data governance, and non-financial risk frameworks within a regulated environment, including strong understanding of regulatory expectations (e.g., CPG230/CPS235), privacy, and record retention obligations
  • Lead and support complex risk assessments, control design reviews, and remediation strategies to effectively identify, manage, and mitigate datarelated risks
  • Apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify risk themes, emerging issues, and trends, delivering actionable insights to support informed decision-making
  • Translate complex technical, data, and regulatory requirements into clear, practical, and business-embedded solutions that support operational effectiveness
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, demonstrating effective communication and influencing skills to engage and collaborate across all levels, including executive and governance forums
  • Provide clear, concise, and impactful written and verbal communication, including the preparation of high-quality materials tailored to diverse audiences
  • Drive capability uplift across the business by coaching, educating, and training stakeholders on data risk and governance frameworks, promoting awareness and continuous improvement
  • Support the implementation and ongoing enhancement of the Data Risk & Governance framework, ensuring data risks are proactively managed and embedded into business processes
  • Maintain a strategic, big-picture perspective while balancing attention to detail, with a focus on continuous improvement and simplification of complex concepts
  • Leverage experience in banking and/or HR data (preferred) to deliver effective and context-specific data governance outcomes
