The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.

OceanaGold is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Senior Advisor - Biodiversity and Research to lead the systematic and proactive implementation of environmental programs related to Biodiversity Conservation and Management, including Environmental Research. This position also aligns Didipio Mine environmental management practices with OGC standards.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organization’s environmental risks and impacts and recommends corrective actions
  • Develop and implement programs, processes, strategies and actions plans that support the attainment of Sustainability Programs in Didipio Mine operation
  • Ensuring compliance with local environmental regulatory rules and regulations and OGC standards and requirements related to Biodiversity Management and Research;
  • Promotes and contributes in raising awareness, at all levels of the organization, of the impact of emerging environmental issues related to Biodiversity Conservation and Research;
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of expenses related to Biodiversity Conservation and Research accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Ensures compliance and adherence to the Integrated Management System: Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001 and Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) ISO 45001
  • Actively participates and promotes company safety, health and environmental programs and activities

Qualifications

  • Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way

Educational Background

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Fisheries, Natural Resource Management, or closely related fields.

Work Experience and Background:

  • With at least 6 years in environmental management work in the mining sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in biodiversity assessment, restoration, and nature-positive practices, approaches, and technologies.
  • With at least 2 years in ISO 14001 management system implementation work.
  • With at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Exhibit effective oral and written communication, leadership, project management, and teamwork skills with an ability to interact effectively with different levels of management.
  • Experience in renewable energy projects is an advantage.

Specialization/License

  • Duly registered and currently licensed Forester, Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Fisheries, Natural Resource Management, or closely related fields.
  • Strong capability in conducting habitat assessments, ecological modelling, or Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial analysis for mapping ecosystems.
  • With professional driver’s license.
  • Qualified to be accredited as Category B Pollution Control Officer by EMB
