Your opportunity

We’re seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior Adviser Government Relations (AS6) to join a dynamic team responsible for managing Queensland Rail’s interface with government stakeholders, including responsible Ministers, their offices and departments, and other government agencies.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Brisbane CBD. The role offers a starting salary of $135,199 plus 12.75% superannuation along with hybrid working to support a healthy work-life balance.

This role is pivotal in ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of ministerial briefings, parliamentary materials, and correspondence, while proactively managing stakeholder relationships and emerging issues across the business.

In this role, you will:

  • Liaise with senior Queensland Rail managers and key officers in relation to government enquiries about Queensland Rail to ensure all are managed in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Alert senior Queensland Rail managers and key relevant officers to issues or concerns about Queensland Rail arising in the offices of responsible Ministers.
  • Review ministerial briefings, Parliamentary responses such as Possible Parliamentary Questions (PPQs) and Questions on Notice (QoNs), and Committee responses to ensure accuracy of content, standard of presentation and compatibility/compliance with government policy and legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate and follow up any actions arising from Parliamentary requests or enquiries from responsible Ministers’ advisers.
  • Work collaboratively with the Team Leader Government Relations and all members of the Government Relations team to assist in progressing Queensland Rail’s key objectives in government engagement.

  • Thorough understanding of Cabinet, Parliamentary, and government processes, and legislative frameworks.
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and prioritise emerging issues, ensuring timely and appropriate escalation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality, accurate documentation.
