Senior Accountant & Financial Analyst

Regular Full-Time

(35 hours per week)

Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Accountant & Financial Analyst to join our Finance team. In this role, you will strengthen organizational performance through the accurate and strategic use of financial and operational data.
Combining financial expertise, analytical capability, and systems knowledge, you will support budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, reporting, dashboards, and project analysis. Working collaboratively across departments, you will generate insights that support strategic planning, enhance decision-making, and ensure the integrity of financial and operational data across multiple systems.
The rate of pay for this position is $ 71,162 - $88,907 per annum.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide financial and operational data support to departments by interpreting reports, identifying trends, analyzing variances, and addressing performance issues.
  • Optimize and reconcile data interfaces across CRM, HCM, general ledger, FP&A, and POS systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of cross-system data.
  • Develop dashboards and operational reports for executive and departmental leadership.
  • Prepare reports, briefing notes, presentations, and other confidential materials for a variety of audiences including finance, operations, board members, committees, and auditors.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements, schedules, and internal management reports.
  • Create user-friendly spreadsheet models and analytical tools that highlight key costs, drivers, and variables, while providing clear documentation and guidance to users.
  • Assist with investment reporting and prepare information required for Board and Committee meetings.
  • Provide project accounting support and reporting for organizational initiatives.
  • Conduct financial analyses and ad hoc reporting projects as assigned, including tracking utilities rates and consumption.
  • Perform general accounting duties including monthly reconciliations, journal entries, invoice processing, and audit support.
  • Support departmental and organizational administrative functions as required.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and workplace health and safety standards.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Business Administration, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward completion is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, accounting, or related analytical roles.
  • Experience in nonprofit, charitable, or public-sector accounting is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with ERP systems; experience with Workday and/or Adaptive Planning is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with databases, data governance principles, and multi-system integrations (e.g., CRM, POS, HCM, G/L systems).
  • Experience with dashboard and reporting tools such as Power BI is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
