Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Grant Accountant will handle all accounting operations within the company, verify financial records and transactions, and monitor the accounting records. This position will represent ABH® and its services in a positive and professional manner and adhere to ABH®’s best practices, guidelines, policies and procedures as established, promoting ABH® as a leader in behavioral healthcare in all interactions and work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly grant reporting to various funders;
  • Establish and maintain grant budgets, financial tracking systems and internal controls;
  • Prepare monthly deferred revenue and cost settlement reconciliation analysis;
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and analysis;
  • Assist in writing and maintain financial statement reports;
  • Intercompany transactions and reconciliations;
  • Analyze grant spending relative to the approved budget;
  • Analyze allocations, program costs, and prepare adjustments;
  • Variance analysis budget to actual;
  • Prepare and post monthly journal and allocation entries;
  • Maintain accounting records;
  • Maintain company accounting procedures and processes;
  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements;
  • Record financial information for analysis;
  • Assist the Controller and CFO in preparing documents and interpreting financial information;
  • Advice on procedure and financial management;
  • Develop procedures to improve efficiency;
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budget and assist in tracking expenditures in order to operate within approved budget guidelines;
  • Assist with audits and taxes;
  • Assist with account balances and bank statements;
  • Manage general ledger and assist month-end/year-end close processes;
  • Ensure compliance with all internal processes, policies and procedures;
  • Support Controller and CFO with special projects and workflow process improvements;
  • Other duties as assigned;

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Master’s degree a plus;
  • 3+ years Non Profit Accounting experience
  • 3+ years Grant reporting experience
  • 5+ years previous experience as an accountant;
  • Business Central and CORE experience a plus
  • Attends annual Conflict of Interest training.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Keen attention to detail and maintain account balances, financial statements, general ledger and all reports;
  • Must be able to multi task and have advanced technical skills;
  • Excellent PC skills with demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Package (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook) advanced Excel skills; internet;
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation a plus;
  • Initiative to work hard and improve processes;
  • Experience with report writer software and database a plus;
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, report writing and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Able to analyze financial records and interpret for other departments;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 – 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

Regularity and consistency of attendance is essential to ensure high quality service and ultimately a productive department and company.
