Senior Accountant - 2609279
JOB PURPOSE:The Senior Insurance Accountant is responsible for performing complex accounting, financial reporting, and analysis for Health, Primary General Liability (PGL), and Workers’ Compensation lines of business. This role ensures accurate GAAP and statutory reporting, compliance with NAIC regulations, and effective coordination with actuarial, underwriting, and claims functions. The position supports organizational goals through strong technical accounting expertise, internal controls, and financial insight.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP and statutory financial statements in compliance with NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).Performs premium accounting functions, including earned/unearned premium calculations, adjustments, and analysis for Health, PGL, and Workers’ Compensation.Records and analyzes loss reserves, including case reserves, IBNR, LAE, and loss development, in coordination with actuarial teams.Prepares and reviews statutory schedules and exhibits applicable to insurance filings and regulatory reporting.Accounts for reinsurance transactions, including quota share and excess of loss arrangements.Performs month‑end close activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.Supports internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and financial reviews.Maintains and enhances internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance and accuracy.Partners with underwriting, claims, actuarial, and operations teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data.Provides guidance and review of work prepared by staff accountants; assists with training and mentoring.Assist with entity initiatives, projects, and other tasks as needed.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:CommunicationCommunicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.Collaborates effectively with internal teams and external auditors.Contributes to positive internal and external customer experiences.Promotes a culture of respect, accountability, and professionalism.Problem Solving & QualityDemonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy.Identifies, analyzes, and resolves complex accounting and reporting issues.Thinks strategically and considers the “big picture” when evaluating issues and opportunities.Recommends process improvements to enhance quality and productivity.Managing for ResultsFollows company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.Effectively manages deadlines and competing priorities.Takes ownership of assignments from inception through completion.Demonstrates flexibility in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.Leadership & InitiativeDemonstrates accountability for own performance and work quality.Willingly takes on additional responsibilities and initiatives.Serves as a subject matter expert for insurance accounting matters.Trains, coaches, and mentors others as needed.Supports continuous improvement and organizational change initiatives.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:· Progressive insurance accounting experience· Health, PGL, and Workers’ Compensation experience or Property Causality and General LiabilityADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)CPA designation or progress toward CPAPrior public accounting experience auditing, advising, or consulting insurance companiesCaptive and Reinsurance accounting experienceExperience in a multi‑state, multi‑entity, or regulated insurance environmentExperience with insurance accounting systems and large ERP platformsFamily Makes Us Stronger.
