Laird R&F Products is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant / General Ledger Accountant to support the company's manufacturing operations through accurate financial reporting, cost accounting, and general ledger management. This role is critical to the monthly close process, balance sheet reconciliations, inventory valuation, and financial analysis activities.

The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience in a standard cost manufacturing environment and possess in-depth knowledge of general accounting principles, cost accounting practices, and financial reporting. Working with minimal supervision, this individual will analyze complex financial data, ensure compliance with accounting policies and controls, and provide insights that support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly general ledger closing activities and support the preparation of financial statements.
  • Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and resolve outstanding items.
  • Maintain standard costs for inventory items and support ongoing cost accounting activities.
  • Lead the annual inventory standard cost revaluation process.
  • Prepare quarterly obsolete inventory analyses and related accounting entries.
  • Analyze and capitalize manufacturing variances as required.
  • Conduct financial analyses and provide accurate reporting to support operational and business decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), company policies, and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial and operational objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including both general ledger and cost accounting responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience in a standard cost manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the creation and use of pivot tables.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and solve accounting issues independently.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accuracy.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of Department of Defense contracts.

Preferred

  • Experience within Aerospace and Defense manufacturing organizations.
  • Experience with QAD ERP systems.
  • Experience with Sage Fixed Assets software.
  • Prior experience supporting inventory accounting, variance analysis, and manufacturing cost structures.
  • Experience leading process improvements and recommending enhancements to accounting procedures and controls.
