Position Summary:
Penn Foster’s Accounting team delivers high-quality financial reporting and analysis to support business decision-making and external compliance requirements. Team members serve as trusted partners to business leaders by providing timely and accurate financial data. As a key member of the accounting team, the Senior Accountant will support revenue accounting and analysis for Penn Foster’s business-to-consumer (B2C) operations across multiple entities. This role partners closely with the Senior Accounting Manager on financial reporting, compliance, audits, account reconciliations, technical accounting research, and process improvements.
We are seeking a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced remote environment, demonstrates strong accountability and initiative, and can independently manage priorities during critical month-end close cycles.
Essential Job Functions:
• Prepare financial statements, reports, and supporting analyses in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Support B2C revenue accounting and monthly revenue calculations
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses as part of the monthly and annual close process
• Support audit and compliance activities through preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
• Research technical accounting issues and assist with implementation of process improvements
• Independently manage workload and deadlines during peak accounting close periods
• Quickly learn and navigate accounting systems, processes, and reporting tools with minimal supervision
• Maintain proactive communication and collaborate effectively within a remote-first team environment
• Support special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as needed
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience required
• Public accounting experience at a mid-tier or regional firm (e.g., RSM, BDO, Grant Thornton, or similar) strongly preferred
• Hands-on experience with financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and compliance reporting required
• CPA license preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems such as Dynamics 365, NetSuite, or AS400
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, adapt quickly to new systems and processes, and maintain accountability in a remote work environment
• Strong sense of ownership, initiative, and follow-through, particularly during critical close periods
• Ability to manage changing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Interest in leveraging AI and automation tools to improve processes and drive efficiencies
Work Environment & Hiring Requirements
• U.S. Work Location Requirement: All employees must reside in and perform work within the United States. We do not support international remote work arrangements for this role.
• Travel Expectations: While this is a remote position, occasional travel may be required for team meetings, company events, conferences, summits, etc. Candidates must be willing and able to travel as needed.
• On-Camera Work Environment: We operate in a highly collaborative, remote, on-camera culture. Employees are expected to be on camera during meetings unless extenuating circumstances apply.
