- The incumbent must be able to performallthe following duties and responsibilities with or withouta reasonableaccommodation.
- This position must protect Petco’s accounting data received from internal and external sources.
- Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests
- Efficiently create complex documents and/or reports using spreadsheet, database, and accounting software ina timelyfashion
- Independently prioritize andaccomplishmultiple tasks within establishedtimeframes
- Analyze moderately tohighly complexdata todeterminetheappropriate courseof action.
- Perform accounting duties and control activities to ensure financial results are reported without error.
- Research and analyze selective data sets and/or accountspertaining tothe duties of the specific functional area of accounting being performed
- Prepare month-end journal entries, reconciliations, budgets, forms, reports, and schedules relating to the accounts in the specific area of focus
- Effectively communicate with field partners, corporate support staff, and senior management, ensuring issues related to accounting are communicated to theappropriate impactedpartners for action.
- Perform business process improvement including root cause analysis, recommendation development, and able to overcome roadblocks to functional success.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Indirect supervision of between 0 - 6 regular and/or temporary employees.
- Duties will include participation in interviewing, training, assignmentdelegationand review.
- May indirectly manage/lead cross-functional work groups.
- Mostjob duties are conducted indoors in a quiet standard office environment, with little or no exposure to hazards.
- Work involves the frequent use of general office equipment such as calculator, keyboard, copier, telephone, and fax.
- The position may also require the partner to lift, carry,moveand push up to 25 pounds, stand,bendand squat for prolonged periods.
- This position will not require extended travel. Sporadic travel for training purposes and the like may berequired
- This positionmay periodicallyrequire work on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
- 4-year degree in Accounting/Finance oran equivalentcombination of education and relevant experience.
- A solid understanding of accounting principles equivalent to a college level Intermediate Accounting course.
- Possess a current CPA certification
- Coached or mentored junior accounting partners
Work Experience (Required)
- Qualified applicant must have and/or be able todemonstratepreviousexperience with and/or the ability to:
- Minimum 3- 5 years of accounting experience, including progressively increasing areas of responsibility in 2 or more accounting functional areas
- Verbally communicate effectively and in writing with department associates, corporate supportstaffand senior managementregardingaccounting information.
- Make recommendations on the most profitable and legally compliant approach to accounting issues.
- A strong working knowledge of accounting operations related to a specific or multiple functional areas of accounting
- Act as an accounting liaison/business partner to a non-accounting business group.
- Performance of detailed analytics over both balance sheet and Profit & Loss statements at the account level
- Manage multiple projects at one time
Work Experience (Preferred) The following experience is preferred, however, notrequired
- Previousworking experience withOraclefinancial software.
- Retail experience is strongly preferred.
- Previousemployment for or work with a Big 4 company.
- Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications (e.g.Excel, Word, and Access) and 10-key by touch
- Must beaccurate, detail oriented, proficient with personalcomputer basedprograms, and trainable on company specific systems
