Job Description

Senior Accountant

Location: Playa Vista, California (full time, on-site)

Launch has changed the economics of space. Now it is time to return.

Outpost is building the missing infrastructure between orbit and Earth: reusable vehicles that can bring payloads back from space and deliver them to a precise location within hours. We call it exologistics, space-to-Earth logistics at planetary scale. This is not a paper concept or a distant roadmap. Our system is in active development, with core technologies advancing toward flight readiness.

The need is already here and the market has responded. We have validated demand through multiple defense and civil agreements, and a growing pipeline across government and commercial customers.

Outpost is building the logistics layer that makes space economically useful in a new way: the ability to move material from orbit to Earth quickly, reliably, and affordably. Over time, that supports point-to-point logistics, 10 tons of cargo, anywhere on Earth in an hour. It also creates the foundation for a reusable reentry network and enables new categories of space activity, including in-space manufacturing, supporting AI data centers, advanced manufacturing and novel materials.

We have a strong foundation, clear demand, and a technical path in front of us. Now the company is scaling rapidly. We are expanding the team, growing our operational footprint, and building the systems needed to execute at the next level. This is a chance to join a company with real traction, working on a problem that matters, at the point where execution and scale begin to define the outcome.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to own and lead all aspects of Outpost’s accounting and procurement operations. You will be directly responsible for ensuring our financial systems are accurate, compliant, and scalable as we grow. You will oversee the general ledger, purchasing process, accounts payable/receivable, government contract invoicing, DCAA compliance, month-end and year-end close, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong technical accounting expertise with applicable experience in the fast-paced, hands-on environment of a startup. You’ll work closely with leadership, provide insights to guide decision-making, and put in place the processes and controls that will serve as the backbone of our financial operations.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Gusto and BILL.
  • Advanced Excel skills for reconciliation, reporting, and analysis.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and execute independently.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial matters clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an early-stage startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive all accounting operations: general ledger management, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Manage and improve the company’s purchasing process: vendor onboarding, purchase orders, approvals, and policy compliance.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable: vendor management, invoicing, collections, and revenue recognition tracking.
  • Manage all tax-related matters, including federal and state income tax compliance, sales/use tax filings, payroll tax, and coordination with external tax advisors to ensure accurate filings and strategic planning.
  • Oversee state-level requirements and compliance for multi-state operations, including employee registrations, payroll/tax withholding setup, and ongoing compliance for out-of-state employees.
  • Prepare and manage government contract invoicing.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Partner with leadership to design and implement scalable accounting and purchasing systems as the company grows.
  • Prepare for and manage audits, ensuring full and accurate supporting documentation.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership to support strategic decisions.
  • Act as a key driver in QuickBooks usage, reporting, and optimization for company-wide financial processes.

Additional Skills or Expertise (preferred but not required)

  • Experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or government contracting industries.
  • ERP or system implementation and scaling experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $100,000 – $140,000 (salary may vary with experience)
  • Incentive Equity (Stock Options)
  • Annual Performance-Based Bonus
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • PTO
  • 401k with Company match
  • Subsidized daily catered lunch, snacks, and coffee

You must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

About Outpost

Outpost is rewriting the rules of global logistics.

Our CarryAll™ platform launches on commercial rockets, then glides back from orbit to deliver tons of cargo—anywhere on Earth—in under 90 minutes. The same reusable vehicle ferries high‑value products made in microgravity back to customers, opening a new era of just‑in‑time space manufacturing.

The company was founded by aerospace innovator Jason Dunn, whose earlier work put the first 3D printers on the International Space Station and proved orbital fiber‑optic production.

Backed by $37 million in contracts and awards from the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, NASA, and other mission‑critical customers, Outpost pairs aerospace‑grade hardware with a software‑driven logistics stack to get life‑saving supplies, strategic payloads, and next‑gen materials precisely where they’re needed—fast. Headquartered in Los Angeles, we’re building the infrastructure that lets humanity move anything, anywhere, at the speed of space. Join us.
