Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and performing advanced accounting activities, ensuring accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and supporting financial analysis and decision-making. This role typically supervises accounting staff, manages complex accounting tasks, and assists with audits, budgeting, financial controls and balance sheet reconciliations.

This role will have a significant role in the management and oversight of the AP and AR functions including overall process improvements to the procure to pay and order to cash process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Monthly closing of AP and AR.
  • Manage and oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Analyze financial data and provide insightful reporting to management
  • Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting
  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Review work prepared by staff accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and assist with audit preparations
  • Monitor and improve internal accounting controls and procedures
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains
  • Assist with tax preparation and regulatory reporting when required.
  • Participate and contribute to the implementation of new ERP.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5-8+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience with ERP systems and accounting software (Great Plains/Microsoft Business Dynamics)
  • Knowledge and understanding of cost accounting concepts and practical applications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA certification preferred (or in progress).
  • Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff.
  • Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Background in manufacturing or cost accounting
