Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and performing advanced accounting activities, ensuring accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and supporting financial analysis and decision-making. This role typically supervises accounting staff, manages complex accounting tasks, and assists with audits, budgeting, financial controls and balance sheet reconciliations.
This role will have a significant role in the management and oversight of the AP and AR functions including overall process improvements to the procure to pay and order to cash process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monthly closing of AP and AR.
- Manage and oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Analyze financial data and provide insightful reporting to management
- Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes
- Review work prepared by staff accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate with external auditors and assist with audit preparations
- Monitor and improve internal accounting controls and procedures
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains
- Assist with tax preparation and regulatory reporting when required.
- Participate and contribute to the implementation of new ERP.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5-8+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting software (Great Plains/Microsoft Business Dynamics)
- Knowledge and understanding of cost accounting concepts and practical applications.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA certification preferred (or in progress).
- Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff.
- Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
- Background in manufacturing or cost accounting
