Hadleigh Community Primary School are seeking SEND One to one Learning Support Assistants (LSA) to work within a small friendly SEND and pastoral care team in a vibrant community school. These are exciting roles within a supportive, forward thinking and proactive team.

You may also be asked to work over lunchtime supporting children over this period and working with the MDSA Team.

The working patterns for these contracts may vary slightly on the times stated above however this will be confirmed upon offer of employment. Further mentoring support and training will continue throughout the role. There may be an opportunity to increase hours in the future and take on other roles once this contract ends.

Role 1 – Monday to Friday 8.45 am to 1.15 pm

SEND support working with a Year 3 child with Speech and language needs, learning difficulties and some behaviour support needed at times. You will work on their individual learning plans, and deliver interventions under the direction of the class teacher

Role 2 – Monday to Friday 1.15 pm – 3.15 pm

SEND support working with a Year 2 child with ASD, speech and language and behaviour needs.

You will work on his individual learning from his EHCP and deliver interventions under the direction of the class teacher. The child has a personalised learning plan which involves him going to early years setting for some of his day.

Role 3 – Monday to Friday 8.45 am – 12.15 pm

SEND support working with a Year 6 child with dyslexia and dyscalculia.

You will work on their EHCP targets and complete the provision in Section F. You will deliver interventions under the direction of the class teacher and adapt the learning to meet her needs. There will be times where you will work with other children in small group activities too.

Role 4 – Monday to Friday 1 pm – 3.15 pm

SEND support working with a child with speech and language difficulties who also has Down Syndrome under the direction of Speech and Language Therapists. You will be working with the child’s individual learning plan, conducting assessments and delivering interventions

Your responsibilities:

  • Supporting pupils
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting high self-esteem and independence
  • Adapt communication style to respond to pupils according to their individual needs
  • Promote high standards of behaviour, responding to incidents in line with the school’s behaviour policy and guidelines on physical intervention
  • Assist with the development and delivery of individual education and support plans
  • Delivering small group and individual interventions particularly involving speech and language development.
  • Complete assessments to determine the support needed for individual children

Teaching and learning

  • Contribute to the planning of differentiated learning activities as advised by outside agencies and SENDCo for individuals outside the classroom
  • Use ICT skills to advance pupils’ learning
  • Provide regular feedback to teachers on pupil progress regarding the targets set by outside agencies
  • Monitor, record and report on progress and attainment to staff in school, parents and outside agencies
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, aims and work of the school

You will need:

  • We would prefer you to have GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and mathematics, but this is not essential
  • Trained in ELKLAN but not essential
  • Experience working in a school environment or other educational setting
  • Experience working with children/young people with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Experience planning and delivering learning activities
  • Experience working with speech and language pupils delivering their interventions would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Makaton would be preferred but no essential
