SEN Education and Engagement Specialist

Compensation: £25.00 - £35.00 / hour

At Fresh Start in Education, we’re looking for proactive, person-centred people to design and deliver personalised learning sessions that spark confidence and a sense of hope for young people currently out of education, employment or training in the Felixstowe area. Whether it’s going on a trip to the shops to learn about budgeting, finding opportunities for work experience or planning and delivering Functional Skills or ASDAN courses, you’ll help students build resilience and explore their next steps. One learner, one relationship, one small step at a time.

With allowances for travel and resources and full support from our dedicated team, this flexible role gives you the freedom to deliver learning in the ways that you feel best meet the student’s needs and interests. What you’ll be doing:

• Working 1:1 with young people in their homes or specialist settings in the Felixstowe area
• Planning and delivering personalised sessions that reflect each student’s needs, interests and abilities
• Running sessions during the school day (term time only) that typically last 3 to 5 hours
• Monitoring and reporting on student progress after each session and setting clear, achievable targets to support ongoing development
• Conducting risk assessments and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
• Engaging with students who may have ASD, ADHD or SEMH needs helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
• Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you and your skills

Who we’re looking for:

We welcome applications from individuals who have:

• Experience (at least 1 year) supporting young people with SEN/SEMH needs
• A background in Secondary, Functional Skills, employability, mentoring, ASDAN or specialist SEND environments
• De-escalation and behaviour management skills
• A minimum of 2 consistent weekdays available
• An up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
