Role overview

Join ASM’s Simulation and Collaboration Hub to develop predictive reactor and system-level models for semiconductor process tools. Combine dynamic system modeling with CFD, thermal and structural analysis to support equipment design, process performance and digital twin development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop dynamic models of gas delivery, pressure and vacuum systems, heating systems, sensors and actuators using MATLAB/Simulink and Simcenter Amesim.
  • Perform CFD, thermal and structural simulations to evaluate flow distribution, temperature uniformity and mechanical performance.
  • Connect detailed physics simulations with system-level and reduced-order models to assess transient behavior and subsystem interactions.
  • Design bench experiments, identify model parameters and calibrate and validate models against measured data.
  • Collaborate with design, process and controls teams to recommend improvements and support control strategy development.

Required qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in mechanical, chemical, aerospace engineering or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on dynamic system modeling experience using MATLAB/Simulink and Simcenter Amesim.
  • Strong foundation in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural mechanics and numerical methods.
  • Experience with CFD and thermal/structural tools such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent/Mechanical or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of system identification, parameter estimation, model validation and control fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical, communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred experience

  • Semiconductor process equipment, particularly ALD, PEALD, epitaxy or CVD.
  • Gas delivery components, vacuum systems, heated precursor vessels and wafer heating systems.
  • Experimental design, DAQ, sensor and actuator characterization, and closed-loop control.
  • Reduced-order modeling, co-simulation and digital twin development.

Position level

  • Level and scope will reflect the selected candidate’s experience and demonstrated capabilities.

About ASM

At ASM, we’re shaping the future at the atomic level. We enable the next generation of microchips by empowering leading semiconductor manufacturers with advanced wafer processing equipment.

Through our mastery of thin-film deposition, we create the innovative tools and solutions that shape the materials at the heart of tomorrow’s technology – powering everything from AI and next-generation healthcare to cloud computing and smarter, more energy-efficient devices.

With over 4,600 people representing more than 60 nationalities across 15 locations worldwide, we’re united by one ambition: to stay ahead of what’s next. And with research centers in seven countries and nearly a quarter of our people and profits devoted to research and development, excellence is our baseline, not our finish line.

Our pioneering thin-film deposition technologies – like atomic layer deposition, epitaxy, silicon carbide, chemical vapor deposition and vertical furnaces – help our customers push the limits of performance, speed, and efficiency. Our strong patent portfolio, flat organization, and agile way of working enable fast collaboration, global mobility, and a competitive edge far beyond our scale.

Every day, we work to make integrated circuits smaller, faster, more energy-efficient, and more powerful. Together, we’re advancing technologies that unlock new potential and improve lives.
