Responsibilities:

  • Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and safety standards.
  • Patrols hospital buildings and premises to help prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
  • Monitors visitor activity on hospital premises and approaches unauthorized individuals as needed.
  • Identifies and reports safety hazards, fire hazards, and security concerns or violations.
  • Assists with the safe restraint of violent, agitated, or hostile individuals when necessary.
  • Responds to questions and requests for safety or security assistance from hospital personnel, students, and visitors.
  • Provides escorts for employees and others to parking areas and hospital buildings as needed.
  • Secures and unlocks offices and facilities as appropriate and securely handles, records, and issues patient valuables.
  • Attends required meetings, training sessions, and other departmental activities.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more as required, including situations involving safety or self-defense.
  • May assist with lifting patients, visitors, and/or staff.
  • May assist with lifting deceased individuals as required.
  • Must be capable of protecting self and others during violent or potentially dangerous incidents.
  • Assists medical staff with the safe restraint of violent, agitated, and/or hostile individuals.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform regular foot patrols.

Qualifications:

Previous security experience is strongly preferred, with one year of security experience being ideal; however, candidates with less than one year of experience may still be considered. Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable completing required reports and documentation. Team members must successfully complete all Security Technician training requirements and become familiar with hospital locations and operations within six months of hire.

This position requires the ability to operate a company-owned vehicle. Candidates must have a current New Mexico driver’s license and meet Presbyterian Healthcare Services’ requirements for insurability.
