
The Veterans Home at Holyoke is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as a Security Team Specialist I. Under general supervision, the selected candidate will provide a safe and secure environment for our veteran residents, visitors and staff. This position will conduct surveillance and patrol the entire internal and external campus of the Home through performing routine security checks, monitoring security cameras and equipment, and determining the extent of any security breaches or emergency situations.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Patrol assigned interior, exterior, and adjacent areas on foot or in a vehicle to ensure the security of buildings and grounds at various institutions and facilities.
2. Guard against trespass, theft, damage to property or injury to individuals by: Screen visitors and inspect rooms, packages, vehicles, etc. for contraband; control crowds; provide personal protection to individuals as required; conduct surveillance of high-crime areas and reporting suspicious activity; search for missing goods and persons; investigate complaints and suspicious activity; mediate disputes; deescalating situations; and inspect buildings, grounds, fire lanes and emergency exits for compliance with safety standards to ensure security
3. Investigates incidents by interviewing witnesses, victims, and others.
4. Enforce traffic and safety regulations by directing traffic; assisting operators of disabled motor vehicles;assisting pedestrians in crossing streets; and arranging for snow removal or sanding to ensure the orderly flow of traffic and prevent accidents.
5. Operates such equipment as two-way radios, teletypes, facsimile transmitters or receivers, base stations, public address systems, emergency medical equipment, office machines.
6. Performs related duties such as cooperating and sharing information with other agencies, enforcing departmental and agency policies and procedures notifying designated personnel of emergencies; writing reports such as activity reports; maintaining records on lost-and-found items, assisting in the evacuation of residents; assisting in firefighting operations and raising and lowering flags.

stressful, emotionally charged and dangerous situations.

9. Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and/or symbols.
10. Ability to record information provided orally.
11. Ability to conduct interviews.
12. Ability to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures.
13. Ability to understand and apply the rules, regulations, policies, procedures,
specifications, guidelines, standards and laws governing assigned unit activities.
14. Ability to communicate, establish rapport with and work effectively with persons from
different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds.
15. Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing assigned work objectives.
Qualifications Acquired on the Job:
1 Knowledge of the types and uses of agency forms.
2. Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
3. Knowledge of the geographic composition of the assigned work area.
4. Knowledge of the proper telephone procedures for making and receiving agency calls.
5.Within 2 months of hire, obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification from an American Heart Association compliant program.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have (A) at least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in work involving the protection and/or security of buildings, equipment or individuals, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. An Associate’s degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment.
