Job Description
The Sergeant reports to the Security Chief and is responsible for supervising the Security Officers and overseeing security operations their assigned shift at Touro University-Nevada. The Sergeant is responsible for providing physical security to employees, students, guests, campus property, and equipment through adherence to department procedures and policies. In addition to supervisory duties, the Sergeant must be able to perform all Security Officer duties.

Responsibilities
Supervises, assigns, and evaluates the activities of the security officers on assigned shift and responsible for:Evaluating, counseling and mentoring shift personnel on job performanceOversee training for new employees assigned to shiftConduct performance evaluations and mentor security officers as neededMonitor the training progress of new security employees that are assigned to shiftRecommendations for progressive disciplinary action Planning daily assignments and conducting daily briefing for security operationsAssess shift personnel and equipment needs
Monitor shift operations to ensure that the campus is a safe and secure environment for allDelegate specific tasks to security officers and department personnel and inform the Security Chief regarding potential problems/issues and recommend possible solutionsSupervise access controlSupervise the patrolling, inspecting, and securing of premisesSupervise the response to and provide emergency management for incidents on campusCoordination with law enforcement officers and/or fire department officials, or other emergency responders, such as EMT’s, and provide emergency assistance as neededReview Security Officer daily logs and reports any issues to the Security ChiefOperate the security camera system with a high degree of knowledge and proficiencySupervise the visitor management systemSupervise the parking enforcement of all University operated parking lots, both on and off campus
Preparing written reportsDocument all security related issues via written reports using the current report management system.Responding, compiling, and reporting all information regarding theft, alarms, accidents, and other incidents that may occur
Report all maintenance and service issues to the Facilities Department
Respond to all alarm activations
Responsible to ensure vehicle log sheets are properly completed
Other duties assignedQualifications
Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or G.E.D Required.
- Possession a Nevada PILB Guard Card and successful completion of Nevada PILB training preferred
- Possession of a valid and unrestricted Nevada driver’s license
- Possession of a valid First Aid/CPR/AED certificate (i.e., Red Cross or American Heart Association)
Experience
- Five years of security or law enforcement experience
- One year of supervisor experience in security or law enforcement preferred

- Must have sufficient visual acuity to read and understand faculty/staff listings, posted orders, maps, computer screens, check identification, and to distinguish the faces of faculty/staff, contractors, vendors, guests and visitors
- Must be able to stand, walk and/or drive for up to 90% of the assigned shift
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently
- Demonstrate the ability to operate handheld radios and communication equipment
- Demonstrate the ability to work all shifts
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- Must be CPR certified
