Job Description

  • Lead and uplift cyber security operations capability across NZTA
  • Drive vulnerability management, incident response, and security performance
  • Permanent role – Wellington or Auckland based

Join NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and play a critical role in strengthening the security of our systems, data, and services. You’ll help protect New Zealanders and the transport network by driving improvements in security operations, performance monitoring, and response capability.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

As Security Performance Manager you will be part of the team working across NZTA technology and business teams to uplift and mature security operations capability.

This role focuses on building robust vulnerability management practices, leading incident response activities, and driving continuous monitoring and improvement of security platforms. You’ll partner closely with Security Operations, Technology Operations, and external service providers to ensure vulnerabilities are identified, prioritised, and remediated effectively, while providing clear reporting and insights on security performance.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading initiatives to uplift vulnerability management capability
  • Managing major security incidents and urgent remediation activities
  • Developing and maintaining security policies, processes, and standards
  • Creating reporting and metrics to track security platform performance
  • Providing expert advice to security teams and platform owners
  • Building strong relationships across internal stakeholders and service partners

View the Appointment salary is from $141,056 to $155,904 commensurate with skills and experience.

Ko koe tēnei | About you

You are a security professional with strong operational experience and a passion for improving cyber resilience in complex environments. You bring:

  • Proven experience in vulnerability management, incident response, or security operations
  • Strong analytical capability and ability to prioritise risk-based outcomes
  • Experience working with tools such as Qualys and ServiceNow
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience working across cross-functional teams to drive outcomes
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and security uplift You’ll also have:
  • The ability to educate and influence others on the importance of cybersecurity outcomes
  • A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in cybersecurity or a related field
