Job Description

The Security Operations Manager is responsible for supporting the Director of Security with management of the operations, administrative and command duties associated to the Security and Communications staff and within the department and acting in a leadership and mentorship role within the Security department of West Edmonton Mall.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Overseeing the daily operations of the Security office and staff including administrative protocols, staffing requirements, scheduling, training processes, and emergency response processes.
• Acting in a leadership capacity in the absence of the Director of Security for all related matters, concerns and emergencies related to the security of West Edmonton Mall Property Inc., Triple Five, and related entities.
• Actively supervising and providing guidance and coaching and mentorship to the Operations Staff Sergeant and Communications Staff Sergeant, K9 Sergeant, and the operations staff of the Security department and acting as a point of contact for any Security staff concerns or dispute resolutions under the direction of the Director of Security.
• Provide guidance and input on the recruitment, selection and onboarding programs for the Security department.
• Overseeing special event security planning, practices and execution to ensure proper protocols are in place and adhered to.
• Ensuring that all administrative and operational practices of department personnel meet the criteria outlined in all applicable policies and procedures, are consistently applied within all squads and meet the goals and objectives of West Edmonton Mall and the Security department.
• Conducting workload analysis as required to determine operational effectiveness and required staffing levels and on floor best practices and security protocols.
• Identify and assist in the creation and evaluation of the best training practices to be implemented for all Security department team members in accordance with their respective positions and conducting required training programs as needed.
• Conducting appropriate Agent response and use of force reviews and completing regulatory and internal reporting processes.
• Identifying best practice and create policies, procedures and protocols by which best practices are implemented by the Sergeants and Security and Communications Agents in order to perform their duties effectively.
• Overseeing behavioral detection programs and practices within the Security department.
• Conduct security equipment/vehicle audits as required.
• Investigate and maintain documentation on public complaints and allegations of misconduct by department staff under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security.
• Act as a Bylaw Administrator with duties and responsibilities pertaining to the City of Edmonton bylaw enforcement.
• Working closely with the Director of Security on various tasks, assignments, and projects.
• Other duties as required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must possess either a law enforcement/security diploma, a criminology degree, previous police experience or related security experience.
• Previous supervisory experience and the proven ability to act as a mentor in the workplace.
• Must have a current Security Services and Investigation Act (SSIA) License or a willingness to obtain one.
• Certified in CPR and First Aid, has a valid class 5 driver’s license and a valid ProServe certification are considered assets.
• Formal coaching and leadership training are assets.
• Must be of good character and be one who acts in a lawful and ethical manner.
• Must be capable of assuming the responsibilities and leadership duties of a Security Sergeant when required.
• Must have excellent communication skills that include; speaking, writing, reading and an understanding of the English language.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• This is a full-time position that is required Monday through Friday.
• This position may be eligible for participation in our 4-day work week program, subject to operational requirements.
• Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
