Candidate Profile
We are looking for an experienced security leader who combines strong operational credibility with excellent leadership and stakeholder skills.
Essential Experience
- Significant experience leading security operations within a complex organisation, ideally within defence, aerospace, technology, manufacturing, government or another high-assurance environment.
- Proven experience managing physical security operations across multiple locations.
- Experience leading both internal security personnel and contracted security providers.
- Experience establishing security operating models, procedures, standards and performance measures.
- Experience managing security technology such as access control, CCTV/VMS, intrusion detection and visitor-management systems.
- Experience operating security functions within defence, aerospace, government or other high-assurance environments.
- Proven experience managing security operations across secure, controlled or sensitive sites.
- Understanding of the security requirements associated with UK defence and government contracts.
- Experience working with government customers, security authorities or equivalent external assurance bodies.
- Experience managing security incidents and providing calm, effective leadership under pressure.
- Experience working with facilities, construction or workplace teams to deliver security requirements.
- Experience managing security suppliers, contracts, budgets and performance.
- Strong understanding of threat intelligence and its application to operational security.
- Experience supporting major events, executive activity or high-profile customer engagements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain relevant security clearances where required.
Desirable Experience
- Previous military, law-enforcement, government or intelligence experience.
- Experience working within the UK defence sector.
- Experience working within secure or controlled defence facilities.
- Experience with classified or highly sensitive programmes.
- Experience operating across international locations.
- Experience with security control rooms, monitoring operations or security operations centres.
- Professional security qualification such as CPP, PSP or equivalent.
- Familiarity with relevant security standards and frameworks.
- Experience working within organisations undergoing rapid international growth or transformation.
Essential Skills & Attributes
You will be a credible, calm and decisive security leader who can operate effectively at both strategic and operational levels.
You will be comfortable walking a site with a security team in the morning, challenging a supplier in the afternoon and briefing senior leadership on a significant security issue later that day.
You will:
- Lead by example.
- Set high standards and hold people accountable.
- Build strong relationships without compromising security requirements.
- Make sound decisions with incomplete information.
- Communicate clearly and simply.
- Understand that security must support the business rather than unnecessarily restrict it.
- Be comfortable operating in sensitive and fast-moving environments.
- Develop people and build sustainable capability rather than relying solely on individuals.
- Bring structure, discipline and professionalism to a growing security operation.
- Demonstrate high personal integrity, discretion and professionalism.
- Be comfortable challenging established thinking and driving continuous improvement.
Most importantly, you will be someone who gets things done.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to play a significant role in building a modern, internationally capable security operation within a rapidly growing defence technology organisation.
You will have genuine scope to shape how security is delivered — from the operating model and workforce through to technology, sites, suppliers, government requirements and operational standards.
Working directly with the Head of Security and senior leadership, you will help create a security function capable of supporting the organisation’s next stage of growth.
This is not simply a security management role. It is an opportunity to help build the operational security capability of a growing international defence technology business.
