Grade B - £28,598 - £33,699

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 8 hours per week

The post is part of a rota system that includes weekends and bank holidays, Shifts are rotated weekly typically working early mornings or late evenings.

The Security Officer will assist the Library of Birmingham in providing a service to the public, staff, and visitors at the Library of Birmingham operating 24/7.

Security officers will maintain both physical and procedural security at the library. You will act as the main point of contact for day-to-day security issues working to action and resolving any issues or management requests in a timely manner.

The Security officer role also involves using initiative to find ways to improve customers experience, signposting customers, meet and greet, ensuring staff and customer safety, security and wellbeing while on sites, responding to incidents as necessary and excluding those with behavioural issues from the library as required.

As a Security Officer you will:

  • Monitor life safety systems
  • Operate the Fire Evacuation lift in emergency
  • Enforce the Libraries and Museums Act 1964 byelaws
  • Follow the libraries policy and procedures and those of the Council
  • Work in the Control Room operating CCTV systems, operating the Fire and Intruder Alarm software systems, Lift Control systems and other software
  • Be computer literate and able to enter data into the computer and write reports
  • Have awareness of be aware of Counterterrorism issues and mitigation measures and be aware of the implications of the PROTECT duty (Martyn’s Law)

You will be responsible for:

  • Opening and closing of the building
  • Digitally recording Incident
  • Complete regular patrols
  • Monitor CCTV and work as a team to provide a safe environment for Library users
  • Performing dynamic risk assessment, using your problem-solving skills to resolve issues that occur during daily operations and liaise with management accordingly

There is a requirement for Security officers to be trained first aiders and to hold the Security Industry Authority Licence. These certifications must be maintained throughout your employment with Birmingham City Council. A CCTV SIA licence is also desirable.
