Job Description

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our guests, team members, visitors and hotel premises.

The role is responsible for conducting regular patrols, monitoring security and fire life safety systems, managing access control, protecting hotel assets, responding to incidents and emergencies, and ensuring compliance with hotel security procedures and relevant regulations.

The Security Officer is expected to maintain a highly visible and professional presence while delivering security services with warmth and hospitality. The role works closely with the Safety & Security team and other hotel departments to identify and address potential risks, support emergency response and ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone within the hotel.

Safety & Security Operations

  • Maintain a safe, secure and orderly environment throughout the hotel premises.
  • Maintain a professional, visible and approachable presence while carrying out security duties.
  • Conduct regular patrols according to assigned routes and schedules, paying close attention to people, hotel equipment, fire life safety systems and potential hazards.
  • Identify, report and appropriately respond to suspicious persons, activities, articles or potential security risks.
  • Monitor hotel access points and ensure only authorized persons have access to restricted areas.
  • Ensure external visitors complete the required visitor registration procedures and are directed appropriately.
  • Verify that visitors have the necessary authorization to access guest or back-of-house areas.
  • Monitor and manage access to guest floors and other restricted areas in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Liaise with CCTV and relevant departments when suspicious activity or persons are identified.
  • Remain alert to individuals who may pose a security or safety concern and escalate appropriately.
  • Support the management of intoxicated, incapacitated or vulnerable persons in a safe and professional manner.
  • Assist with the prevention of unauthorised activities, including illegal or inappropriate activities within the hotel.
  • Discourage unauthorised removal, misuse or damage of hotel property.
  • Monitor public areas, guest corridors, entrances, back-of-house areas and other designated locations.

Patrols & Property Protection

  • Carry out scheduled patrols of guest and public areas, back-of-house areas and other designated security zones.
  • Inspect key operational areas including plant and machinery rooms, electrical/distribution rooms, kitchens, storage areas, fire control areas, service corridors and other restricted areas.
  • Check fire escape routes, emergency exits, fire safety equipment, exit signage and other safety installations.
  • Ensure back-of-house office doors and other designated areas are secured after operating hours.
  • Inspect team member locker rooms and restrooms and address any security, safety or inappropriate activities observed.
  • Monitor for prohibited items, including flammable or explosive materials, corrosive substances, hazardous tools, illegal drugs and other unauthorised items.
  • Conduct team member bag inspections in accordance with hotel policies and applicable requirements.
  • Pay attention to unusual movement of persons or property, including individuals entering without bags or with empty hands and leaving with bags or items.
  • Report and record any discrepancies, damage, loss, suspicious activity or potential security threats.
  • Take appropriate action to protect hotel assets and prevent unauthorised removal of hotel property.

Asset Control & Gate Pass Management

  • Ensure hotel property is not removed from the premises without the appropriate authorized and signed Gate Pass.
  • Verify Gate Pass documentation before allowing hotel property or equipment to leave the premises.
  • Record and retain relevant documentation for items temporarily removed from the hotel.
  • Close and update Gate Pass records when borrowed or loaned items are returned.
  • Detain and record suspected unauthorised hotel property or items requiring further verification in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Record relevant details, including the name and employee number of the team member involved, where required.
  • Assist with the recovery and documentation of damaged or lost hotel property.
  • Ensure any applicable payment or reimbursement for damaged items is properly documented and escalated to the relevant department.

Key & Access Control

  • Maintain proper control and custody of deposited keys.
  • Ensure keys are issued, returned and recorded in accordance with the hotel's key control procedures.
  • Monitor access to restricted areas and report any irregularities immediately.
  • Ensure lost, missing or unreturned keys are reported and escalated promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to key control and access management.

Guest Service & Hospitality

  • Provide assistance to guests while maintaining security and safety standards.
  • Familiarize yourself with hotel facilities, restaurants, operating hours and key locations to provide accurate directions and assistance.
  • Assist guests with elevators and directions when required, particularly during busy periods.
  • Provide additional assistance to elderly guests, children, persons with disabilities and other guests who may require support.
  • Maintain a welcoming and professional demeanor when interacting with guests, visitors and team members.
  • Respond to guest enquiries within the scope of the role and refer matters to the appropriate department when required.
  • Handle security-related guest concerns with discretion, professionalism and empathy.
  • Maintain awareness of VIP guests and special situations and provide appropriate support while respecting guest privacy.

Visitor & Access Management

  • Ensure all external visitors comply with hotel registration and access procedures.
  • Direct unauthorised visitors to the Front Office or relevant department for verification and approval.
  • Ensure visitors receive the appropriate consent before accessing guest rooms or restricted areas.
  • Monitor visitor activity within the hotel and report any concerns to the Duty Manager or Security Supervisor.
  • Ensure commercial photography or filming within the hotel has the required approval from Marketing & Communications or the relevant authorized department.
  • Refer unauthorised photography, filming or commercial activities to the appropriate department.

Fire Life Safety & Emergency Response

  • Remain familiar with the hotel's fire life safety systems, emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
  • Conduct regular checks of fire safety equipment, fire alarm systems, emergency exits and related facilities.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to fire alarms and other emergency situations.
  • Operate fire control and emergency equipment as trained and authorized.
  • Assist with emergency evacuations and crowd management when required.
  • Maintain knowledge of basic first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Provide appropriate assistance to guests and team members during emergencies, particularly vulnerable persons.
  • Report any defects, obstruction or damage to fire life safety equipment immediately.
  • Support emergency drills and exercises as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, emergencies and actions taken.
  • Incident Management & Reporting
  • Respond promptly to incidents involving guests, team members, visitors, property or hotel operations.
  • Assess situations calmly and take appropriate action within the scope of the role.
  • Notify the Duty Manager, Security Supervisor or Assistant Director of Safety & Security of significant incidents or concerns.
  • Prepare accurate and timely incident reports and maintain appropriate records.
  • Preserve relevant information and evidence where required and ensure matters are escalated appropriately.
  • Assist with investigations relating to loss, damage, accidents, suspicious activities or other security incidents.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive security or guest information.

Workplace Safety & Back-of-House Security

  • Monitor team member areas including locker rooms, restrooms, back-of-house corridors and offices.
  • Address inappropriate activities including smoking, gambling, excessive noise or unauthorised storage.
  • Identify and report the presence of flammable, explosive, hazardous or strong-smelling materials in unauthorised areas.
  • Ensure designated back-of-house areas remain secure and orderly.
  • Support the enforcement of hotel safety and security policies across all departments.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Work closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering, Food & Beverage, Events and other hotel departments to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Communicate relevant security information clearly and professionally during shift handovers.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Security team and CCTV operators.
  • Escalate operational concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
  • Support other departments during emergencies, incidents, events and high-occupancy periods.
  • Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, guests, contractors and visitors.
  • Compliance & Professional Standards
  • Comply with all hotel policies, procedures, safety requirements and security standards.
  • Follow applicable Singapore laws, regulations and requirements relating to hotel security and safety.
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications and training relevant to the role.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal grooming, professionalism and conduct.
  • Protect the confidentiality and privacy of guests, team members and hotel information.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to security operations.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned by the management.

  • Minimum Secondary School or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant security experience in a hotel, hospitality, commercial or similar environment preferred.
  • Valid Singapore security licence / relevant PLRD licence as required for the role.
  • Knowledge of hotel security operations, access control and patrol procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of fire life safety, emergency response and first aid procedures.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, integrity and vigilance.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in challenging situations.
  • Physically fit and able to conduct regular patrols and respond to emergencies when required.
  • Comfortable working shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Previous experience in a luxury or lifestyle hotel environment will be an advantage.
  • Pre-opening experience will be an advantage.
