Job Duties

To provide a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors at ESH by handling difficult individuals (i.e. physically control, confine and restrain) during difficult situations. Maintain adequate coverage in order for the Public Safety Department to fulfill its mission statement at Eastern State Hospital. Each officer is sworn by the Court of Williamsburg/James City County and is fully empowered to make an arrest for any State and Local violation.

This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency, pandemic, or facility need. All ESH positions are required to work different shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays, and/or overtime as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in preparing reports and investigation techniques
Valid Driver's License with good driving record
Experience in conducting foot and/or vehicle patrol
Experience in Law Enforcement, Security, Or related fields and positions meeting and dealing with the general public as a supplier for security services.

Additional Considerations

Special Conservator of the Peace Training and obtain certification.
Experience utilizing various computer software.

Virginia’s judicial system consists of the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals of Virginia, the Circuit Courts, and the lower General District Courts and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts. Virginia has 13 electoral votes in presidential elections, and possesses 11 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
