The Security Officer provides security services to VCUHS by courteously assisting staff, visitors and patients; enforcing rules and regulations of the hospitals; projecting a positive image; and promoting a safe healthcare environment.
The Security Officer conveys an image of professionalism, behaving in a way that is conducive to good hospital and community relations. This is an unarmed, non-sworn security position.

Experience REQUIRED:
Previous knowledge of security and/or law enforcement measures and techniques at a level generally acquired during 6 to 12 months of on-the-job training and orientation in such techniques or college curriculum in Administration of Justice
Experience PREFERRED:
One (1) year of security, public safety or law enforcement work experience
Education/training REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/training PREFERRED:
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
Independent action(s) required:
De-escalates agitated patients, both individually and as a member of a team.
Prevents potentially risky and/or violent situations.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A
Additional position requirements:
Ability to work all shifts including weekends and holidays and extended hours based on schedule and organizational needs.
Some Security Officer roles may require valid Virginia Driver’s License and acceptable driving record that reflects safe and lawful motor vehicle operation.
