Security Officer – Private Community Security (Part-time)

Colleton River Club, a premier private residential and golf community in Bluffton, South Carolina, is seeking a professional and service-minded Security Officer to join our team.

Our Security Officers are an important part of the Colleton River experience. In addition to maintaining a safe and secure environment, you'll interact regularly with members, guests, employees, contractors, and visitors. We're looking for someone who can confidently enforce policies while remaining approachable, courteous, and professional.

A Day in the Life of a Security Officer at Colleton River

As a Security Officer, you'll help protect our members, guests, employees, facilities, and property while providing exceptional service throughout the community. Responsibilities include:

• Patrol Club property, residential areas, facilities, and perimeter locations by vehicle and on foot.
• Monitor and control gate access, verifying resident decals, guest passes, visitor registrations, and contractor authorizations.
• Process visitors and contractors, issue authorized passes, and maintain accurate gate and visitor records.
• Monitor security cameras, alarms, and other security systems.
• Respond promptly and professionally to emergency and non-emergency situations, including medical emergencies, traffic accidents, suspicious activity, alarm activations, wildlife incidents, and requests for assistance.
• Provide member and guest assistance, including lockouts, motorist assistance, security escorts, and general service calls.
• Conduct routine house checks, building inspections, and property checks.
• Promote traffic safety throughout the community, including operating mobile and stationary radar equipment.
• Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and potential security concerns.
• Enforce Club rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and applicable state and local laws.
• Issue citations and verbal or written warnings when appropriate.
• Coordinate with fellow Security Officers, local law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, and other emergency services when necessary.
• Accept, secure, log, and distribute packages according to established procedures.
• Complete detailed incident reports, patrol logs, gate activity records, and daily security documentation accurately and on time.
• Provide backup and support to fellow Security Officers as needed.
• Perform all duties in an unarmed security capacity while maintaining a professional, calm, and service-oriented presence.

Typical Work Schedule

Part-time

Saturday: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Sunday: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Monday: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Flexible availability is preferred. Schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.

• Learn and consistently follow security procedures, policies, and protocols.
• Understand and appropriately apply relevant South Carolina laws and Club policies.
• Operate a security patrol vehicle safely and responsibly.
• Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, access-control systems, and other security equipment.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and unexpected situations.
• Communicate clearly and professionally by phone, radio, in writing, and in person.
• Work collaboratively with fellow Security Officers, Club leadership, law enforcement, and emergency services.
• Identify and report safety hazards and security concerns.
• Maintain accurate, detailed security and incident documentation.
• Provide excellent customer service while confidently enforcing rules and policies.
• Work independently, use sound judgment, and remain professional in challenging situations.

Previous experience as a Security Officer, Security Guard, Patrol Officer, Gate Officer, Public Safety Officer, law enforcement professional, military service member, or in a similar security role is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This is an active security position that includes both indoor and outdoor responsibilities. Security Officers must be able to:

• Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Regularly bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, and move throughout the property.
• Work outdoors in varying Lowcountry weather conditions.
• Safely operate a patrol vehicle.
• Respond quickly when circumstances require immediate assistance.

Compensation

$20.00+ per hour, based on experience

Requirements

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• High School Diploma or GED; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be SLED certified or eligible for certification, which requires U.S. citizenship.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Must be SLED certified or eligible for certification, which requires U.S. citizenship.
• Must be CPR/AED and First Aide certified or have the ability to become certified.
