Job Description

Under general direction of the System Director of Legal, Associate will perform a wide range of Safety and Security duties providing a safe and secure environment. Provide minimal maintenance assistance. Exhibits the values of F.I.R.S.T. (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust) of Ephraim McDowell Health (EMH).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Security Officers must be able to respond to security concerns at all EMH premises requiring the operation of an EMH vehicle.
2. Investigate incidents as they occur. Complete required forms and log.
3. Provide escort services for Associates to Medical Center parking lots and parking garage.
4. Promotes the EMH philosophy (AIDET) to ensure quality care.
5. Covers the functions of minor maintenance during the hours when Maintenance Associates are not scheduled.
6. Considers the age of the patient served, applies knowledge of growth and development and age specific techniques through the life span (pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients) in planning and implementing security processes.
7. Keeps continuing education and training current on security methods and technology use.
8. Able to locate policies on Compliance 360 as well as thorough understanding of policies and codes regarding Security and system operations.
9. Demonstrates commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills (i.e. AVADE, Taser, metal detector use).
10. Contributes to the achievement of the mission and philosophy of the Organization.
11. Contributes to the effective operations of the Organization by demonstrating dependability in job performance and attendance.
12. Demonstrates a commitment to incorporating the core concepts of patient family centered care into practice (dignity, respect, information sharing, and participation).
13. Demonstrates a commitment to the development and implementation of shared governance across the Organization.
14. Required to wear designated security uniform and equipment, including but not limited to a security vest and department-issued defensive tools (e.g., Taser), in accordance with organizational policy and training requirements.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Employment may require performing supplemental tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue. Subject to burns, cuts, strains, abrasions, and electric shock. Works varied shifts and on occasion, may be required to work extended shifts/hours or extra shifts for security coverage. Subject to seasonal weather exposure to perform various functions (i.e. shoveling snow, salting sidewalks). Normal stress involved. Heavy stress may be involved on occasion. May be exposed to situations with the ability to restrain persons who may pose a threat to Associates, patients, visitors or guests. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently. Must be able recognize and identify a physical description during various codes/situations in addition to identifying various equipment within the environment.

CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:

Will have contact with other Associates, visitors/guests and patients, law enforcement, and other first responders on a routine basis.

EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Must know how to operate hand tools and perform some maintenance for emergency situations. May have to use alternative protective equipment (tasers, metal detectors, etc.)

Qualifications

Two (2) years experience in healthcare security or law enforcement preferred.
